I'm putting together a tri-fold pocket brochure about the RPA as a hand-out at OSH this year. In it I plan photos and brief specs for the aircraft typicall flown by our members. To that end, I'm in search of some information that I can't seem to find by searching the internet.

1. Does anyone have a reasonably accurate number of CJs and Yak 52s in the  US and Canada? I did find a census of Yak 50s. There appear to be 29 in the US and none in Canada. Right/wrong?

2. What's the typical cruise speed and Vne for a Yak 50?

3. How many 52TWs & TDs are in the US and Canada?

4. Do the 52TWs uniformly have 400hp M14s?

Thanks, Blitz

Blitz,

I can say with a high degree of confidence that all TW's have the 400 hp M-14.

I am also positive that Cliff Coy knows EXACTLY how many TW's were built, since he has probably assembled them all when they got to the USA (except mine, which was pulled from the shipping container by my friend George Coy, who put my plane together with his right arm in a cast!).

Cheers,
Steve Dalton

I could do an Excel Spreadsheet on CJs and Yaks if that would aid in the calculation. I have not updated it in the last two years.

From the transport canada website. when you search Nanchang. you get 19 Cj's.

When you search Yak. You get 4 x 52's 3 x 18t's 1 55, and 1 Yak 1 m2

Blitz,
The Kmph numbers from the YAK-50 pilots manual are:
VNE – 430
VNE – 470 ( if the ASI is label 500 Kmph only)
Max level flight 400 Kmph.
I cruise at 65% / 700 mmHg seeing 250 kmph with no winds aloft.
Depending on ASI calibration along with other things, like flush verse button rivets, age of engine, ect, other 50 drivers will see different #’s. But, they are all going to be in the 240-250 kmph range.

The FAA registry show 36 YAK-50’s in the US. http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/acftinqSQL.asp?striptxt=YAK50&mfrtxt=YAKOVLEV&modeltxt=YAK+50&cmndfind.x=7&cmndfind.y=7

The first "Yak 50" I ever saw was in 1972 in England and the Russkies called it a Yak "18R".
