Does anyone have any info on how modify the original Van's roll bar on an rv-4 to the style that has a rounded top. I have seen these on a few -4's and HRII's over the years and wish to make one for an F-1 rocket with a tip over canopy. Perhaps someone knows of a supplier?
Thanks.

Ivan,
I made one from scratch using a U tube and two straight pieces of tubing. Draw what you want full size and it will be easy to cut the U tube in the right place. You'll have to Google the U tube, as I no longer have the URL.

Thanks to both of you for your responses. One other question: When attaching the curved top piece to the two straight side bars, is a short piece of tubing inserted before joining the pieces to strengthen what would otherwise be a weaker butt joint?

Ivan,
With a proper weld I don't think the joint will be any weaker than the base metal. On mine, the U bend is mild steel and the straight legs and braces are 4130. After all the pieces fit properly, I safety wired the assembly to a plywood board for tack welding.
