Ok all you flyers and near flyers, did you position your rudder peddles in the forward or aft set of bolt holes?
Thanks to the excellent plans, it you blink you miss completely the fact that there are 2 sets of bolt holes that can be used to set the for and aft positioning of the rudder peddles. Section 38 page 4 shows the 6 holes in the F-1013 longeron and shows the F-1039B bracket being installed into the forward set of holes but doesn’t mention the aft set of holes and why you may or may not want to use either. You then blindly proceed on and drill the F-1039D bracket for the center support blocks based on the set of holes you used for the side blocks. It is not until 38-10 where the secret is revealed when in step one you make the Rudder Cable Links, either the Aft or Fwd based on the holes used previously.
Well I drilled the F-1039D bracket for both settings so I can go either way at any time with out having to do any drilling in the future.
Here is my question, which location did you install your peddles, how tall are you and do you feel that you were correct in the location you used? I know that we have a fair amount of latitude due to the ability of move our seats forward and aft. I can see tall pilots wanting the forward position, but at some point smaller pilots would prefer the aft settings. The seat can only be moved forward just so far before the stick starts getting in the way.
It would be nice if we could come up with some type of rule of thumb that would say any one shorter then 5'8", then install in the Aft set.

Gary I'm 5'9" and I move the seat 3/4 of the way forward so unless your all leg I think the best place is to put the peddles as close to you as possible. There will still be plenty of room in the back seat leg area. I also put two 25 lbs. bags of shot in the back baggage to help with stick force during landing and I leave them back there even with three on board, the plane gets sweeter to land the more loaded it is.
you will find that below 70 you can pull that stick all the way back and it still comes down a little quicker then I like.

At 6'2" I have yet to meet a vehicle I can't comfortably control with the seat as far back as it will go. Although my wife's Jetta comes close. I have however been in many that were uncomfortable because I couldn't get back far enough. I went with the forward position so my rear seat passengers still had some leg room. YMMV

At 6' I used the forward rudder pedal position and set the seat back three notches. This setting provides very comfortable knee room under the panel and more than ample room for rear seat passengers.
With the seat all the way forward my 5'8" friends can reach the rudder pedals.

Same here, and it's working out well so far. It's getting kind
of humorous watching the myth that the RV-10 has a huge hot tunnel
problem, and that it has a big forward CG issue stick around.
The hot tunnel seems to be easy to solve with some real basic
moves, and personally, I'm more concerned after 300 hours with
having my CG more AFT than it has to be, than it being too
far forward. Personally, I think the CG position that Van's
designed with is liveable, and that by adding equipment like
Aux batteries, it still works ok....but I'd be leery of making
it any more aft than it has to be. There are going to be many
people who find out later that they're load limited due to CG,
due to some options that they add to the tail...especially
the people who try to go with lighter props and everything
else if it's in the name of less forward CG.
To me, the only people who should really worry about intentionally
moving things aft due to a far forward CG are those people who
are going to fly a stripped down plane, with the rear seats
almost never filled. THOSE people might want to add some
equipment aft on purpose. I carry no added weight in the tail
anymore (just did for the first 50 hours or so while I still
believed in the myth) and it flies wonderfully that way.

One other question along this line. Is the forward position (closer to firewall) position of the rudder bracket for taller people or shorter?
I'm learning not to assume the obvious. For example, having the rudder bracket aft would put the pilot's body and head further back in the cockpit and thus more headroom for the taller person.
Or is it the obvious, shorter people set rudder bracket in rearmost positon. I'm 5'10" and will probably be ok with either and prefer to keep my C.G. forward.
However, my wife is 5' 4" and plans to fly the plane also.
Thanks,
Tom H.

Based on you and your wife's height I would suggest the aft position
(furthest from the firewall). Forward is for folks like Tim (towering).
