There are a couple of suggested firewall forward weights for the 801 shown in Zenith Aircraft documents. One is 440 lbs and in another place it shows 400 lbs. My set up weighs in at 437 complete. When I got to the point of doing my weight and balance the calcs showed I needed 30 some lbs in the tail.I added that and the plane is properly balanced and flies just great.I did do some checking and found that even the people who installed the 220 hp Franklin has to add about that same amount of wieght in their 801 too. During my investigation process involved with going the V-8 route I wanted to document various Lyc weights in a real world situation, not the deceiving numbers you will find on some fact sheets. For instance, the numbers shown show a 0-360 180 hp Lyc weighs 297, well thats stripped and no engine will fly like that. I did get to help a friend who removed a 0-360 with a constant speed two blade prop off his Piper. As it was,and I mean absolutely everything needed to make the plane fly, fuel sustem, exhaust system, shrouds, starter, alt, mags, etc, etc, etc,. This thing weighed in at 456 lbs, a far cry from the 297 they tease people with.. My gut feeling is your 0-470 with bare basic accessories and a light wood prop might be lighter then 440lbs,,,, maybe... I didn't exceed the 440 number so I cannot varify an 801 will fly with a heavier engine. I did have to drastically detune my motor to get it to a somewhat reasonable HP figure to prevent the plane from breaking in half. I am somewhere in the 330 HP range and that's a sea level number. Up here in Jackson Hole Wy  (at)6600 ASL it is actually in the 260-270 range. My plane has not shown any visible signs of deforming as of yet,,,, But, My conditional inspection is this month and I have been running it very hard for the last 100 hours to test the engine so surprises might be right around the corner. Whatever I find I will report to you guys so we will have some more data on the 801.

Someone put a Lyc IO-540 into a CH640 which had a similar weight. He has plenty of power, but with it's useful load it is basically a very powerful 2 seater, and it's flying qualities are compromised. That 425lbs is probably the dry weight, so it will be significantly heavier than the V8 when you get everything on it. I would think long and hard before sticking something that heavy in an 801 unless you really need all that power, but that's just me.
