I’m hoping to get down to Lakeland on Fri or Sat at the end of the show and was reading the arrival NOTAM. It mentioned arrivals are not ‘routinely’ accepted until AFTER 1830 everyday. Any with previous experience found that to be the case? Seems awfully late in the day to start accepting airplanes considering how many show up.

Secondly, are most folks planning on parking in homebuilt and camping, or parking at HBC (homebuilt camping) and living with their airplane? Seems like this may have been hashed out already so sorry if it’s a repeat question.

Thanks,
Marcus

The airshow goes to 5:00 and they need to get the departures out ...... before the arrivals ...... is my guess.

I can't help there. I live in a camper the whole week ..... and it's already onsite.

By the way, there are quite a few changes to the site .... go to http://www.sun-n-fun.org/content/ and peruse the web site for a lot of info. I was at the volunteer meeting yesterday, and they've already got about 1/2 of the tents up. Last year they were still getting stuff up on opening day!!!

Its true. Last year I staged and fueled at X35 for arrival at 1815 and it worked well. There was a group in a holding pattern around the lake that they let land beginning at 6:00. When I arrived 15 minutes later I was all alone and it was easy. Listen to the power plant frequency soon after leaving X35 to prepare yourself for the traffic (if any).

The challenge is to land at this late hour, park, and get your rental car before they close.

Have fun,

Last year when I fly down, we landed at Bartow (KBOW) because we arrived when the show was still on.  We killed time on the ground there until the Show was over than we refueled (Cheapest gas around here as well) and headed back into he air. Like others have said, it took about 30 minutes for the departures to finish before they would let arrivals begin, which was around 30 minutes after the show. It was a nice tour flying in and around Lakeland while listen to the radio for when they were going to start accepting arrivals.

Thank You

Thanks for the replies. I think I confused myself when I read the NOTAM where it mentioned not routinely opening for arrivals until 1830 after the field REOPENS each day. My hope was to arrive Sat morning before the show and that’s where I got confused thinking the only arrivals all day long could only be after 1830.

Having said that, a Friday PM arrival may be possible which would be nice.

Thanks again,
Marcus

Anybody going to Sun-N-Fun, if you want to meet up somewhere and chat,
you have my cell phone number on all of my e-mails. Feel free to
call. We (my family and I) will be hanging out in the campground in
the evenings with an airpark group from Ft Meyers, one of which is an
RV-10 builder.

If we get there in time on Friday we'll be living in an orange Harley
Davidson tent. Hopefully we'll stay until Sunday morning. Please swing by
and say hello, I'd like to meet some of you great RV-10 folks.
