cylinder baffle rubber strips

I have noticed that the paper-wrapped rubber strips at the top of my cylinder baffles are... well, slowing turning to cr(at)p.



So, before I engineer my own not-so-clever solution to replacing them, I thought I'd ask here if anybody had some ideas.



The rubber strips are about 1" wide, 1/4" thick and like 6 or 7" long.  They're usually in a little metal "tray" held in by rivets.



Not only are my strips slowly disintegrating but some of the trays are suffering pretty badly, too (becoming detached from the baffles).



I was thinking to remove the trays entirely and cement rubber replacements right to the top of the baffles.



But I don't know enough about "rubber" to know what to use that will take the head, slime and vibration.  Or how to attach new strips in a mostly-permanent fashion.



Suggestions?

 Contact Doug Sapp.  I believe Doug stocks the  cylinder baffle rubber/leather strips.  That's really the best  solution.  Replace with new, identical parts.

JON,   try a piece of cowling anti-chafe stripping; you can cut it to any length you choose and it''s tough enough to rivet if necessary.
