Well the mud at S&F got a victim today.

Tim Williams taxing in from flying the show, directed to taxi on what was believe drier ground. He happen to apply power just as he hit really soft ground. The tail of his TW came up and he got about 4" of his 3 blade prop. Craig Payne's warning last week of soft ground with the all the rain - fell true. Because of the mud, attendance is WAY down. AAMOF the first day LAL was CLOSED to all arrivals but warbirds and performers. There was simply no place to park. The WB area looked like the crowed deck of a carrier with the way they needed to park on the only solid ground.

Watched "Gabby" Land do his first and today, second arco routine in the CJ-6 during the WB part of the show. He really flies the CJ nicely. Doing a 8 sided loop, 8 point rolls, etc. He started the routine with a 5 turn spin and watching the CJ spin compared to all the other hot acro ships, it really looks almost "lazy". He does hammer heads (not the CJ's forte) the best I've seen with the what looks like the pivot point being the right wing tip. All his lines appeared right on. It looks like he may perform at OSH too.

The troops formation looked really good to. Only 8 were on hand to fly. I arrive to late to participate so got to view take pictures.

Thanks Jim for your kind words. We had to head out before the show today to
try to beat the weather coming to Atlanta so we could make a trip to Dallas
for a ³college² weekend. Hard to believe he¹s headed there next fall!

Alex had a great time flying the show the last 2 days. Judging from the
comments on the crowd line and later on the flight line, it seemed to be
very well received and generated some great interest in the ³RedStars² (CJs
and Yaks). Even some of the other airshow performers made a number of
positive comments about the routine in a ³stock² CJ and the energy
management his routine presented.

The formation flights were great as well with a really well timed and
executed move from finger tip to echelon right at show center- it was SHARP
and I¹ve got the video to prove it. All the planes having smoke really made
us look like a ³team².

The dinner last night reminded me of a dinner at Waycross many years ago
when this all started for me..........

I hope to have a video of the routine and then one of the formations up in
the next few days.

Jay
