Hi All;
My poor 914!!! It only has 25 hours on it and the exhaust pipe is cracked.... welded it once already but to no avail. The muffler is cracked where the exit pipe exits the muffler. My welder had originally welded the old cracks and then added 4 gussets to eliminate exit pipe vibration. Obviously, that didn't work out. His thoughts were that the stainless used for the muffler was too thin, and if he welded it again it would only be a band aid.

Is this a rotax part and did they put out a service bulletin on it? Anyone know where I might be able to buy one in the states? As for the type of rod and type of weld, I can tell you that it was TIG welded using stainless rod. Not sure about the type of weld (ie. subsiding reverse Y). Hope this all helps anyone else having same problem.

Appreciate any help in finding a replacement,

Paul Boulet, Malibu, CA

Unlike the 912s the 914 uses a specific Rotax set of parts.
California Power Systems in the Bay Area is the biggest Rotax Dealer/
Supplier on the West Coast(as you probably know).
They should be able to help you out.

Thanks Ira. I been outta the build loop so long on this thing that I've lost a lot of interest. Basically just need the exhaust pipe to complete the annual, fly off another 15 ours, then put the interior in and it'll be ready to sell. Market so soft on Europas tho that I may just hang onto it a few years and fly when I can.

Take care,

Folks,

I need a set for the 914 engine I am building up for my fuel injection
project and when I looked into the price a price a year ago they were
$1100.00 per pipe, and no doubt cost more since the shift in the US
dollar to the Euro.

I did notice that Jason Parker has a nice looking set of pipes and
turbocharger manifold that he has fabricated for his turbo charged
Rotax engines that he offers on his web site at
http://www.experimentalfuelinjection.com/wst_page4.php.

I haven't had any luck in getting him to return my emails, I suspect
he is only interested in selling complete engines.

I would be interested to hear if anyone finds a local manufacturer for
914 Exhaust pipes.

Paul

Hey Guys

"I would be interested to hear if anyone finds a local manufacturer for

A local IA swears by (not at) Dawley:
http://www.dawley.net/
for Certified Cessna, Piper, Beechcraft stuff.

He has had special stuff made up for oddball aircraft and was very happy
with results.

Worth a call, let us know outcome.

I checked the price and am astounded they want some $1,500 for such a small, non moving part. I'm gonna find someone that can weld stainless and try to patch mine back together.

Paul,

I have two copies of the old Europa exhaust pipe. The one with the little stub that's supposed to be welded to the muffler. If you'd like, I can send one of them on to you.

Great flying,

Thanks for the offer but I think I'm good without it.

Paul

I never did get a reply from Jason Parker, but he is probably worth
chasing up. If you don't have any luck getting a hold of him give Bud
a call, he might be able to help.
