I have a model 2. I printed a Skystar list of Service bulletins before they went out of business and they listed #47 Rudder Pedal Torque Tube Cracking applicable to M1, M2, M3, M4, C4, dated 8/22/1995.
Now, on the Kitfox Aircraft LLC site, the only Rudder pedal SB I see is #38 dated 5/15/94 which pertains to S5 Vixens.
Why do the SB lists not match up? Do I need to reinforce my rudder pedals, and if so, how do I get a copy of the procedure?

Jeff,
You're looking for Service LETTER #47. It can be found at:
http://www.kitfoxaircraft.com/Service%20Letters.htm. A better copy
with a picture can be found at:
http://kitfox.lazair.com/skystar/Service_Letters/index.htm. Don't ask
me why Skystar had bulletins and letters.
Now you'll notice that neither says what to do. Various
reinforcements have been used. Mine consists of tube width straps
wrapped around a tube then along it's perpendicular mate about two
diameters. This strap is welded all around. I'll send pictures tomorrow.

I have been unable to get the link for SB #47 to work. Thanks for the pictures of welded strengtheners. My memory is of a riveted plate, which I can do myself. So I guess I am still looking for a copy of the original Skystar SB#47.

Jeff,
The hyperlink is incorrect. You need to remove the ending period from the address so the last digits of the address read "...Letters.htm"
My experience is that the tubes don't fail without notice. They will begin to crack a little and the crack will spread with use. Problem is that the crack on my pedal was on the side facing the firewall so a visual preflight inspection was not sufficient to find the crack. The A&P performing the annual found it.
I suggest that if you continue to fly your Model 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 then you thoroughly feel around each welded joint during preflight and get an inspection mirror to look behind the pedals.

OK Jeff, here it is:
SERVICE LETTER #47
DATE: August 22, 1995
SUBJECT: Rudder Pedal Torque Tube Cracking
APPLICABILITY: Kitfox™ Models 1 through 4, Classic 4
COMPLIANCE: As required
FROM: SkyStar Aircraft Engineering Department
We have recently noticed that some of the rudder pedal torque tubes in our older factory aircraft have started showing signs of fatigue at the positions shown in Figure 1. Because of this we recommend that each owner/builder inspect his torque tubes carefully for any signs of fatigue or cracking prior to the next flight of the aircraft. You should remove the assembly from the aircraft so it may be inspected under more optimal conditions. Prior to inspecting the areas indicated, remove any paint or powder coating around the welded joints with a piece of emery paper. If no cracks are seen, repaint the areas around the joint with a coat of paint just thick enough to protect the assembly from corrosion and add the tube to your list of items to be inspected on both preflight inspections and annual condition inspections.
If cracks are seen, replace the assembly before flying the aircraft. Even if no cracks are seen, we advise that you install a reinforcement kit on the tubes prior to continuing operation of the aircraft. This kit is part number 35015.000 and may be purchased from SkyStar for $59.95.
If you have any concerns or questions regarding this inspection, please call our Customer Service Department at 208-454-1443.

Thanks again guys. I wonder what the kit referred to looked like.
"This kit is part number 35015.000 and may be purchased from SkyStar for $59.95"
Maybe this is where I got it in my head that a riveted reinforcement was the suggested fix. Most of you guys went with a welded reinforcement, or did nothing other than to inspect.
