Hi everyone,
I'm new here and will be purchasing and building a homebuilt aircraft this fall. I read on this forum that there were previously concerns regarding seat height and width for tall/wide pilots. I have heard that the new interior provides much more room, but haven't found any specific numbers yet. Does anyone know the seat height (height from the seat cushion to the canopy) and seat width of the new interior?
I have a sitting height of 38 inches and I would like to know If I will fit. I'll be at Oshkosh to check it out personally, but it would be nice to have the numbers beforehand.

Good morning
It is my understanding that you must cut the seat base and drop it to the
floor of the fuselage, then re-glass it for the lowered position to gain
more clearance for tall pilots. I am 6'3" tall and I too had problems with
head clearance in the standard Lightning. This procedure sounds like a
workable solution.

I am 6'-2", but have a torso/sitting height of 39.5". I fit with just enough clearance for my headset. I lowered my seat by cutting out the seat support and center console where is rests on the spar box enought so it sits flat. I think I have pics on my build log site. I have also been trying to drop the seat pan to gain head room, but am running into the spar box torsional support tube. I could probably gain an extra inch or more if the seat pan weren't blocked by the tube. I'm wondering if the tube represents the limit to seat lowering or whether there is some clever work around.
I am only 5'10" tall, but with a 30" inseam, I have a freakishly long torso and a sitting height of 39.5"; about the same as Jim. With 2" of Conforfoam as a cushion, compressing to perhaps an inch, and the seat pan dropped as much as the tube will allow, I just fit with a headset on. If I can't find another inch, I will probably switch to an in the ear headset.

I widened the center arm rest to make more room in the seat. You can drop the seat by cutting out the bottom past the support and drop it to the floor , you can gain almost 3". Make sure you drill all the holes you can in the flute tube. You have to angle the forwarded holes to let the pin slip into the tube this will give you more leg room and head room.

For some reason I'd rather think of myself as a short guy with a long torso than a tall guy with stubby legs.

Now I am even more psyched about getting to see the plane up close at Oshkosh.
. I spoke to one kit manufacturer (not Arion) about his product. When I told him that I had a seat height of 38" (might even be 38.5") he acted like I was some kind of mutant who must have been born near a nuclear power plant or something.
