Can anyone give advise on routing brakes lines and what to use on my 601HD. I am at the point of closing the wing center section top skins. I am thinking about using 1/8" aluminum tubing and going through the daylight lower corners of the rear ribs just behind the main spar. I just don't see a good neat way to route between the gear and the pedals. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Michael French

Hi Michael,

1. You may consider plastic brake lines from Aircraft Spruce.
The gear movement cannot be accommodated by aluminum
tubing. Same problem inside the cockpit with the movement
of the brake pedals.

2. We made a mistake when building our plane with regard
to routing of wires and tubing into the wing. We simply
bundled everything with tie wraps and used safety wire
(three segments per hole) to hold everything
centered within the large holes of the ribs just aft of the spar.
It is great fun to replace a wire or tubing later on. If I had
to do it over again, I would put a thin plastic pipe centered
into those rib holes, held in place by safety wire, and everything
would be routed within that pipe. It would make replacement
of wires or tubing very easy.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes,

Klaus

Michael,
I ran a short hose behind the gear up thru the skin to a bulkhead
fitting, changed to tube and then thru the large rear hole and went
forward along the outside of the last center section rib. The line then
goes across thru the bottom of the center section console and forward to
a point where it changes from aluminum tube to hose at the pedals.

I used a 1/4-inch tube for durability. A typical hose would be high
pressure type 303 with 491 fittings at the gear and at the pedals. Very
durable.
