Hi All,
I am currently getting both fuel tanks welded in my 52 due to leakage. When we removed the lower wing panels the middle tank strap was missing which added to the premature tank removal. Does anyone know of a source for two straps that I can replace upon reinstalling the repaired tanks? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Warren,
I would have a set out of a CJ6, but have no experience about interchangability.
Check it out if you have a CJ near by. Your step should ship today.

Hi Doug,
maybe someone on the YAK list has experience with the CJ straps in regard to modifying them to work in the YAK.

Thanks

Virtually all Yak 52's have only 2 straps holding the fuel tanks, even though there are 3 braces on the top side of tanks. Many of the cracks that develop in the fuel tanks are caused by the expansion/contraction of the metal tanks during hot weather causing the tanks to expand because the vent system in pre-1989 Yak 52's is very poorly designed. Have you ever opened the fuel caps during hot weather and heard the "whoosh"? With a vent system like the post 1989 Yak 52's have on them (two vent tubes under the belly of the airplane behind the nose wheel indentation instead of one), the problem of expansion and contraction disappears. Welding will fix the existing cracks, but it may happen again (cracking).

You may want to consider replacing the metal 60 liter fuel tanks with our custom made fuel bladders which are designed specifically to fit into the entire fuel cavity. This will give you a true 87 liters per side. Or approximately 46 US gallons total. Another hour of gas. They are an easy 2-day installation. If you are interested, please contact me off-line at dsavarese0812(at)bellsouth.net (dsavarese0812(at)bellsouth.net), or call me at 334-285-2141, central time in the US.

Dennis
I will make up a set straps to support the tanks midsection.. In response to your previous E Mail on my vent system, the aircraft has been modified with the dual vents. Thanks for the info on the fuel bladder mod.
