Today I went up to the airport in Northampton, Mass., and started my refresher flying lessons. I had an hour in a Cessna 152 doing basic flight manuevers. I felt awkward at first, but got the hang of it again in about 20 minutes. The 152 was older and well used as a trainer, but solid. My flight experience was all in an Alon A-2 Ercoupe 39 years ago. I had just gotten up to a couple of hours of take-offs and landings when I had to quit because of an injury. Biggest problem today- unfamiliar with the Cessna dashboard. Just for any lurkers out there- first lesson in 39 years on Friday the thirteenth, in a plane with tail number ending in 513. The only bad thing was that I still liked it. This could have serious financial consequences.
My wife takes her first refresher lesson tomorrow morning.
