fellow builder dudes;

Flew the 601 on a 500 mile business trip, hitting various locations to visit clients. First leg was St. Petersburg to Opalocka airport, to visit my dad's factory and help some inner city kids build a 601 project through Barington Irvings' program at George T. Baker in Miami INternational. cruised at 7500 ft at 140mph TAS. burning 4.5 gal per hour.

Next day due to afternoon showers, got up early and flew at 1500 over the beaches to visit a client in Melbourne. Melbourne is home of the Joint Stars program. and the airport just won the Embraer 145 essembly contract. After breakfast in the airprot I took off to the north and was handed off to Patrick AFB, to go to KTIX(titusville NASA). You could see the rockets on the launch pads to the east and flew at 105 mph to TIX to visit a great aviation museum they have on the north side of the field. Took a great tour of their Grumman Avenger they are rebuilding and an A-6 Intruder.

Next stop Orlando International airport. Before departing TIX, i received departure instructions and a squak code on the transponder. Cleared for a west bound departure and handed off the Orlando control, a settled in at 3000 ft. (500 below the clouds) at 110 Knots. I was cleared into Class B and instructed to overfly airfield at 3000 ft and enter right down wind for runway 18R on the Macguire AFB side of Orlando INTl. After crossing overt field and began a 1000pm decent. "427JV you are cleared to land, number two behind the 747. entering base, i watched to where the 747 touched down and aimed for 1000 feet past him to avert the heavy vortex it generates. I landed and switched to ground on .8. tied down and took a shower at Galaxy Aviation. Needless to say everyone came out to check out the home built that just landed and parked next to a private 737. Got to love it. Put on my suite and tie and got a ride to the Hyatt for a round of meetings with clients and state legislators to discuss Florida's wonderfull Insurance environment(wink, wink). dinner was up at 8-45pm, and took off home infront of a 757 and behind a 767. Night5 flying in a 601 is needless to say, the Best. flew home from Orlando to KSPG in 35 minutes.

A great general aviation trip burning less gas than traveling in a car. And I was able to hit more locations on a given day. Who said LSA planes were for just around the patch! From a work stand point you cannot beat 5 gallons per hour in this high fuel cost environment.

Juan Vega 601xl, 3300.
