Hi,
someone on the list queried avgas prices over here. This from todaysissue of FLYER.

Varying prices from £1.34 + VAT to £1.51 + VAT. That doesnt look too bad until you realise that is PER LITRE. I am not surewhat the VAT rate is. Generally it is 17.5% but there is a Fuel Tax and I do not know if if that is included in th main body of the price or not.
Since the 1980`s the Fuel Tax for aircraft has been at 50% that of motor fuel but that protection is due to be removed. Courtesy of the European Union.
Current price for motor fuel is !.34 per litre for diesel and £1.28 for normal unleaded.

I have started a collection of very strong rubber bands....

Cheers

Good Morning Patrick:

Pounds, liters, and VAT, do not mean a thing to 95% of your audience, especially me. Wink

Could you translate your fuel prices into gallons and dollars? or do you have the same problem I have?

During my recent flight out West, I found av gas prices were not much more than auto fuel prices, and diesel prices were more than av gas prices.

Putting a crimp in my flying, as well as my driving style.

John,
Math was never my strong subject but this is the way it works, I think

£1 is worth $1.97
3.78litres to US Gall.

Price here about £1.20 per litre (and over)
Say $2.364 per litre.
$2.364 multiplied by 3.78 =$8.93

Roughly 9 bucks a gallon to you.

Hope that is right.

By the way. VAT ( the French call it TVA, but then they would) stands for
Value Added Tax. Each country in Europe fixes their own rate and usually
some exemptions. Here food is VAT rated Zero. but the idea is that all
countries should become the same eventually. On the other hand there are no
State or local taxes..

Cheers

Pat

Thanks, Patrick:

Good explanation.

Makes a lot more sense to me now.

That is a lot more than I paid for 87 oct this morning, $3.76 a gal.

Greetings,
Fuel prices across the river are $2.50 a gallon for gas and $2.25 for diesel. The fuel comes from the same refinery on this side but the difference is all the taxes, additives and extra refinements mandated by our government that causes us to pay more.
But I will not go across the river to buy gas because there have been over 500 drug related murders this year and I sure don't want to get caught in the cross fire. Who said smoking marijuana was a victim-less crime?

Same here Will, most of the price of fuel is now the tax which has been increased steadily (stealthily) over the years.

The good side of all this is that the increasing price makes it worthwhile to adopt, or invent, alternatives. The only thing that gets those things going is economics. If there is a buck to be made someone will be on the case.

Enjoy the price of fuel as it is. It will seem low in 5 years.

Cheers

Pat

Well fuel went up again today . The Kolb can now burn about $26.64 US per
hour. I know there are others on this list that pay more. It will not stop
us using the stuff but we may become a little more choosy when to fly, boat
or take the old car for a Sunday drive. Still its about -2c windy and wet
out side now so am saving for a good day.
Get revenge use it all while we can.

I had a nice ride sunday morning over to the coffee drinker's and
tire kicker's airport.
Nothing fell off the kolb which made it all the more enjoyable.
Costs me somewhere around $10 hr but then I only cruise around 60.

An interesting development in fuel prices in CA at least.

Our glider club buys MOGAS for the towplane in bulk(400 gals) at a time.

Interestingly the price has not gone up much since all the fuel stations prices went up.

We are still paying around $2.55/gal.

It seems that this fuel is not subject to a lot of the ussual taxes as it is designated for agriculture use (IE not automobile use)

At the pumps here in CA we are paying $4.55/gal

Anyone think of starting an UL strip on your farm and keeping a fuel supply??? Or maybe a non-profit flying club?

Looks like the real thieves in this fuel price gouging are our own tax people. Cant blame the Oil moguls for that can we?

I feel like the US people and the fuel markets here are being manipulated internally at a high level.

What the hell are they doing to us??? I never voted for this!

this fuel price gouging are our own tax people>>

Hi Ray,
so whats new? Not sure that is the full story though. The story is that
there is an oil shortage and that is causing the price rise. This is not
so. There is no oil shortage. Speculators on the Stock Exchange are buying
Oil stocks on the expectation of a price rise and that makes it more or less
self fulfilling as it is in nobodies interest to burst the bubble. The price
per barrel is bound to increase in the long run as oil has to be found in
more and more difficult places.
The Government (yours and mine) is winning hands down as not only are they
collecting higher revenue on the fuel but as the extra fuel costs are
added to every stage of an articles progress from manufacturer to retail
outlet, plus a little profit each time, it eventually appears as an
increased sale price in the shop. The higher sale price automatically
triggers extra tax revenue. You in your various Sales Tax regimes and ours
in VAT.
The government has hit the mother lode without the problem of the
unpopularity of announcing a tax hike. They stay shtum and collect the
money just the same. Nice!

They may have overcooked though. Here an increase in fuel tax scheduled for
the autumn has been abandoned after a revolt by Members of Parliament and a
proposed increase in the annual tax we pay to enable us to put the car on
the road may go the same way.

Whichever way you slice it the end user gets stuffed..

Cheers

Pat
