Kolbers,

Since the subject was recently brought up to look "in the archives", my response is "You've got to be kidding!!!

I HAVE done a few archive searches. But, I must say, finding what you are searching for can be a real nightmare, and at the very least, a half a day affair!! An archive search is a TRUE arduous task!!

Example: Say you want to look up "aileron controls". You enter "aileron controls" in the search engine...and up come 635 responses. You start reading these responses, and after the first one or two the subject matter starts getting mired in all kinds of irrelevent stuff. It seems that before long the subject completely drifted away from ailerons...and now is talking about watch batteries or boat paint. What's worse is no one even changes the subject line, so that all the chatter goes on and on and on about nothing to do with ailerons.

But since you REALLY want to know about "ailerons" you weed through these unrelated comments with a hope that at least a couple will address the subject matter!! All this weeding through junk costs you an afternoon!!!

This is ONE of the reasons why certain people keep asking us to stay on topic (KOLBS!!!!), and remain inside the subject. An archive search is quite useless when only 3% of the responses have ANYTHING to do with the subject.

We might try looking at our response to a subject line, and ask "Is this answer relevent to the subject, and does it have anything to do with flying or building a Kolb??"

I hope I haven't offended anyone. There IS a reason why we are supposed to stay on the subject of KOLBS and related items. (Not just to irritate John!)

Have a nice day.

It's also a reason to:

Change the subject line when the discussion has drifted,

Delete quoted and requoted text when it has nothing to do with the new
subject, and

Use "do not archive" when it has nothing to do with anything Kolb related.

Mike:

Who said I was irritated. You took that for granted. I wasn't frowning or
snarling as I typed those emails. In fact, I think I added a smiley face to
let you all know I was my same "old" contented, happy, mellowed out self.

Takes more than a couple shit birds to irritate me. After having an
Infantry Company a couple years and an Officer Student Aviation Company for
a year, the only thing that bothers me is someone leaning on my Kolb or
putting finger prints on the windshield. Wink

There is definitely a reason for Matt's suggested guidelines for operation
of the Kolb List. If it strays too far away from center, it becomes a hang
glider or truck repair list. I'm here because I like Kolbs. I also like a
lot of other stuff too, dirt bikes, ATVs, antique tractors, boating, RV'ing,
but it doesn't have a place on the Kolb List.
