All

I am planning to eliminate the rubber fuel lines in the cabin. I want to go with metal tubing

Questions

1 Which alloy is best for this?
2 What size? Same as the ID of the rubber tubing I'm replacing??

And for the bonus round Do I get it from ACS or a quick trip the the aviation section of the auto parts store? Rolling Eyes

Thanks

Larry

Larry,
Summitt racing is an excellent source for all types of fuel
lines and fittings. You want the 3/8 " OD aluminum tube.

Larry,
I'd recommend you purchase 5052-0 aluminum tube, 3/8ths O.D. .035 wall
thickness and the flared fittings that go with that
option. The 3/8ths tube is pretty durable and not likely to get damaged
easily, yet you can use a tube bender to get nice results.
See links below for example 3/8th line.

I used the 3003 3/8" OD aluminum tubing from ACS. This will work fine
for the relatively low pressure of a typical fuel system. It is
shipped coiled up, so it's easier to package and is soft enough to
bend easily without tools. I don't remember ever seeing aluminum
tubing at an auto parts store, most of the fuel tubing used in cars is
made of steel. Copper could be used I guess, but it's heavy and pretty
expensive right now and is not suitable for use with aluminum fittings.

Or.....

You can use a -6 Teflon Stainless Steel braided line with a clear cover.

Here is an example.....

Of course in the end its up to you the builder. Now aluminum tubing is lighter in weight and at $17.00 for 25ft is cost effective. And in as so long as you do not have tight bends, easy to work with as well. On the other side you have to make sure your flares are correct (here is where most fuel leaks occur) and not to score the tubing.

Craig,

Yup...that's us. Please note that the web site is being re-done, and at this point has no mention of hombuilder assistance hose/fittings.
