Hi List
Since the warmer temperatures my oil temp has been
going to it's maximum at over 250 degrees especialy
when take off and cruise..I have the newest type cowling
and have removed the botton fiberglas to around where the
nosewheel tubing comes out. I have also checked the input
from the air intake on the right side oil cooler.. everything is tight and
not leaking air..There is a lot of heat inside the cowling after
a flight..I am using 100% antifreeze as a coolant but i understand
antifreeze has a higher boiling temperature. should I change it to 50-50
.I am installing 1150 amphib floats
soon so I need to get my temperatures down..Any help the
list can give me would be appreciated..Also anyone in contact with
Mark Townsend ask him to call me 709-891-1883.or email

100% antifreeze will not cool worth a darn. Of course you are posting about oil temps but on a watercooled motor thses numbers do interconnect. On my watercooled 801 I run 50/50 in the winter and during to summer drain out as much of that mixture and add straight distilled water. There is still a slight amount of antifreeze in suspension to add lubricity to help the water pump seal. If I leave the 50/50 set up in during the hot summer I gain about 15 degrees f in water temp over the distilled version. I also have found my relationship with water temp v oil temp works out to somewhere around for every 5 degrees of additional water temp the oil gains 10 degrees f.
YMMV

Add a lip at the leading edge of the lower cowl exit. This will create a low pressure zone and draw more air through the system.

Had exactly that problem till I changed to 50/50 antifreeze and water. Fixed it. But renew the antifreeze every year.
