Hi David,
You battery is on a charger as I write. The new panel overlays arrived today. Your timing is impeccable. I ran into some trouble with one of the planes I'm working on. So, I had to stop working on yours. I have two questions which haven't been addressed, see the bottom of this email. I have one question regarding the EI EGT/CHT/OAT.
Just to verify, before I get too far into this and possibly make an error,
You want: all of the existing avionics and equipment removed.
You want: A completely new wiring harness that incorporates
- PMA7000M-S audio panel
- you want a cell phone jack installed on/for this.
- Garmin 430 (the GPS antenna will be mounted on the glareshield)
- GX-60 (the GPS antenna will be mounted on the glareshield)
- GMX 327 transponder.
- Trans-Cal encoder
. . . . . Note (1): New circuit breakers will be installed for the equipment listed above.
. . . . . Note (2): If you want the GPS antennas mounted on the aft fuselage,
I will replace ALL of the coax going to the aft cabin.
=2 0 Just these coax cables on the plane on which I am currently working cost $400.
. . . . . Note (3): Rewiring the aft cabin adds about 24 hours to the installation.
. . . . . Note (4): You will need an avionics cooling fan.
. . . . . Note (5): You will need a nav/glideslope indicator for the 430.
You want: both the Garmin 430 and the GX-60 wired to the existing autopilot
You want: a Davtron M800 installed. You want me to purchase this for you and install it.
You want: the Mitchell EGT/CHT removed.
You want: an existing EI OAT/EGT/CHT installed in the location previously occupied by the Mitchell.
You want: the EI OAT installed so that the mechanical OAT can be removed.
. . . . . Note (1): Do you want the EGT/CHT installed?
You want: the mechanical OAT removed.
You don't want anything done with the existing DMA fuel flow which is already installed.
You want: a 1" vacuum gauge installed next to the AI.
. . . . . Note (1): I would suggest just installing an idiot light that can be mounted next to the AI.
0A
You want: a new fiberglass dorsal fin with one antenna installed inside the dorsal fin.
- You want the LORAN antenna removed.
- You want one of the com antennas mounted on the bottom of the plane.
You want: all of the panel switches (fuel pump, nav lights, strobes, pitot heat, beacon, landing light) replaced.
You want: two auxiliary cigarette-type power jacks installed. These will be mounted to the right side of the center console, up, underneath, within easy reach.
. . . . . Note (1): I would advise against mounting them in the panel due to
(1) possible wire shorting problems behind the panel.
(2) interference with the flight controls
(3) plugs sticking out of the panel and wires draping across the controls.
(4) lack of space to install
. . . . . Note (2): There is no safe place in the aft cabin to mount a cigarette-type auxiliary jack. If you wish to have additional plugs install ed I recommend you find someone willing to accept the liability.
. . . . . Note (3): Where would you like all of the fuses and/or circuit breakers mounted for all of these?
. . . . . Note (4): You will need a separate circuit protector for each one.
You want the yokes removed, stripped, drilled, and powder coated in a black hammer-tone finish.
You want my eyebrow installed.
- Do you want lights or not?
You want: New panel overlays installed.
- What color do you want it powder coated?
Gary

Gary, sounds like you are going to be busy for quite awhile. I hope the owner has a pretty good idea of how much all this is going to cost him so he can plan ahead, rob Fort Knox, etc.

If you mount a GNS-430 antenna on the glareshield, can it be approach certified? Not in my experience.

Gary,
I encourage you to get an advance on all this work. Why should the owner earn interest on your money and you take all the risk?
Give him a ball park estimate on the high side and get at least 1/2 as a down payment.
Anyone worth trusting will not have any problem with paying in advance.

There is nothing to prevent it from being certified when mounted on the glareshield. Why would you think it can't be mounted on the glareshield? The best place for the antenna is a surface that is horizontal in flight. I've done 4 this way so far.

We obviously have discussed the financial details with Gary before deciding
to go ahead with a refurbished panel.
We still have some used avionics for sale that could help us to offset the
cost a little bit. Let me or Gary know if you need a Narco 122D, Narco 122,
Narco 121, Narco 120 or Michel MX11 radio .

David,
How much do you want for the Michel MX11 and how old is it?
