Darrell,
I use Mitchell from ACS they appear to be rehoused VDO instruments but are lower cost and have a proper aircraft style mounting.
These have been good for me, I used to have some Westach when I ran 2 strokes and found them compatible in terms of reliability (not)

Darrell, if your going to buy steam gauges I recommend you buy good ones. When I built my XL I low balled and I ended up in the first year and a half replacing most all the "cheap" gauges I originally installed. China does a lot of things real good, but if their fighter planes use their gauges we will never have anything to fear from them. I am building a RV-8a now and intend an all glass panel. For what I paid for the "cheap" gauges and there more expensive replacements I could have bought Garmin 850. Best wishes and blue sky's,

I bought most of my flight instruments from eBay. I paid about a third
of the retail cost. Most of them were pulled out of old Cessnas or
Pipers and sold in eBay auctions. The used RC Allan gyro horizon
lasted about two years and then the motor burned out but the new RC
Allan directional Gyro is still going strong. My ASI, VSI, turn and
bank and altimeter were all bought used and are all U.S. made and
still working fine. I've flown the plane about 330 hours over the last
four years.
I haven't heard much good about Falcon gauges but have no personal
experience with them.

AMD does not use vacuum gyro instruments, just electric ones. I don't know
the make and model off the top of my head. I'll look at the book later to
see if they're listed.

They're not; I looked at them when AMD had the panel open. After looking at
the Aircraft Spruce catalog online, I think they're RC Allen RCA26-AK1 AI,
RC Allen RCA15AK-1 DG, a United Instruments VSI, and I think a United
altimeter as well. Can't tell about the TC or airspeed gauge.

Thanks Jay,
Electric are better than the vacuum, thatīs why they are so expensive.

I'll second that. I'm REALLY happy that my airplane has no vacuum pump. Even
the weight of the backup instrument battery is small price to pay for that,
and it's not all that heavy.

Actually if you compare electronic versus the price of a standard six pack vaccuum system. Elctronic kicks its butt in pricing. A dynon EFIS system is almost half the price of the standrd Vac guages including Art. Horizon. Less maintenance as well.

Compare apples to apples. The Dynon is not TSOd. TSOd glass panels are a lot
more expensive.

WHo gives a ^%$#^ bout TSO. TSO means pay out the ass for licensing that does not make anything safer. If it can go in the Rutan Rocket ship, its good enough for some rincky dinky EAB at 110 mph in my eyes.

TSO also means, for a factory built aircraft, "legal for IFR" for the
primary flight instruments. That is why I went with steam gauges instead of
a Dynon. It alo means that comparing costs is not apples-to-apples.
