I have flown in rain many times.

Thank you for your answer, John.

Friends, Sunday was a hot day and I was out with our sailboat when I got a heart attack followed by a cardiac arrest in the ambulance. In two days, I'll get a pacemaker. I am afraid that it looks like my flying days are over. Still - better alive on the ground that death ... under the ground.

Best regards,

Holy crap! Sorry to hear that you are having health issues, but DONT give up on flying this easy. You love it way to much to talk about tossing in the towel. Keep your spirits up and you will be back in the left seat in no time!

Hey, Michel. You should have stayed in bed! I'm really sorry to hear about
the attack, but glad to hear that you'll still be able to talk to us here on
the list. Those pacemakers work pretty well now that they have the bugs
worked out of them. Now, if you can just get used to having a laptop hooked
up to you every so often...
Good luck, my friend.

Michael,

I am very sorry to hear about that, from your posts here on the list it is clear that you are very passionate about flying. Having something like this is bad enough, but fortunately you don't have to let it end your flying. Trying to get a medical back from the FAA after something like this takes a long time, One could be dead of old age before getting his mecial back Sad The good news is that you are still legal to fly Ultralights ! The Skyraider is a 103 legal ultralight that is basically a single seat scaled down Kitfox. You could legally fly one without a medical and it is a wonderful flying plane like the Kitfox is Smile

Best of luck to you, and don't let this setback keep you down.

Mike

Michael,

One other thing that just came to mind... There are always lots of new kids with private pilots licenses that just want to fly, and build time. Just go to the local flight schools and put the word out that you lost your medical and that you are looking for a pilot to fly with you. They will be beating a path to your door, and you will be back flying your Kitfox by the end of the week Smile

Michel,

I am extremely glad to hear you are still communicating with us. Your input
and insight have always been a productive part of this list.

You should know that wherever you go that there is a "Fox" from this list
you will be welcome as a passenger at minimum.

It should make us all aware of how fragile our situations can be.

It is my hope and prayer that the medical powers that be can find a way to
correct what is needed and get you back in the left seat.

Michael,
Sorry to hear you are having this problem. I remember well all the trials and tribulations you went through when you first bought your kitfox. You know you and your stories on this list were the inspiration for me to finally get the training and start flying my Kitfox. I waited six years after I finished building it to finally fly.

Michel

About 1 week before we were scheduled to leave Canada for Australia my wife (50yrs old) suffered a heart attack and ended up having an emergency triple by-pass. She was, and still is an active jogger and in great health.

She recovered fully and leads a total normal life now - she also doesn't fly now - but then again she couldn't before!

Hopefully this will just be a glitch in your recreational flying.

Best wishes and get well soon

Hi Michel

I'm very sorry to hear that, at least it happened when you were not airborne and are therefore still with us today to tell the tale.

All is not lost. While I would definitely take the route of having a safety pilot for the near future for obvious reasons, there may be some hope for your flying future. I think that Norway is a full EASA member and therefore you fly under the JARs, right?

There is a NPA (Notice of Proposed Amendment) to change the license system in Europe. It will introduce an LPL (Leisure Pilots License) category into FCL1 which may carry some reduced privileges but also will have a reduced medical requirement (LPL medical instead of a Class 2), and this can be issued by a GP if allowed by the local authority. This is a bit similar to the Sport Pilot system now in the US.

The NPAs can be viewed here:
Licensing requirements
http://www.easa.europa.eu/ws_prod/r/doc/NPA/NPA%202008-17b.pdf

Medical requirements (The LPL requirements are in Section 3 MED.B.090 starting on page 18 )

Michael,
Sorry to hear about the cardiac problems. You will feel much better after your ticker is regulated with the pacemaker! I've always said....that boating is more dangerous than flying!! Laughing Our prayers are extended on your behalf to the real PIC. Keep the faith!

Not so, Michel. I had a 5-way bypass operation in 2000, and I hadn't
even learned to fly yet. I don't know what the rules in Norway are,
but over here, you could fly as I do...Sport Pilot.
Good luck with your health, and keep up the good cheer....that is an

Michel, sorry to hear of your recent heart attack. I dropped the "rain" thread well before you reported your condition. Hope you have a full recovery and that Norway's regulations will allow you to fly again soon.

In any event, I've also appreciated your postings and keen insights. Get well and keep us posted!
