Hello everyone C long time without posting on my behalf. I just missed the opportunity to buy a door handle on E-bay. I would really like to acquire one with working key since I missed my keys and there is no way to lock my airplane. Does anybody have an idea how can I solve this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Octavio,

I don't really want to broadcast this to a wide audience, but most Commander owners already know this: Unless the lock has been changed previously, any Commander or AeroStar key will work on any of the original locks.

If you're uncomfortable with that, do not buy another Aero Commander or Aero Star door handle. Have a lock smith re-key your existing handle.

Saludos,

Wing Commander Gordon

It is my understanding that all Commanders use the same key. I was told it was an old Chrysler blank, but I have had some made. If you cannot find one, let me know and I will try and get a copy of the key made for you.

Don-

I just had some made- and they determined it was a Studabaker key stud that was used…

They work fine on mine…

Are all the locks the same?  I can send one also- I had quite a few made…

Good Evening Robert,

I don't know much about Aero Commanders, but in the days of the Douglas DC-3, all of the UAL ones used the same key. It was called the 100 key.  I was told that every DC-3 built had the same key, but that may not have been true. I do know that all of ours used that one key. That key also unlocked almost any door on any building that UAL wanted locked including the door on the Stewardess "doghouse". And don't ask me how I know it worked!

Robert;

That is what I have been told and also what Commander Gordon says. Have a friend that has a Widgeon and he had Aero Star door handles put on it and my key worked great, in fact as I recall, he confiscated mine!

If Octavio needs one, that might be good, as I would have to go out and get a copy made. But it is interesting, the locksmith told me it was an OLD Chrysler blank, course it could have been used for both Chrysler and Studabaker, or he could have been confused!

I just removed the lock and had a locksmith make a key.
