Hi , 

i need to fit a trim tab to counter the very slight left roll that has been there 

since construction, its ok when your vfr but i find it tiring when your not.

 (with a passenger there is no roll), what material are you using , where should it be placed and what are the dimensions? im not looking to fit an electric tab due to the work involved, although if anyone has fitted a ground adjustable type that might be worth considering,

A couple of the guys have opted for a "rubber band" on the passengers stick

when encountering this

flying solo. Its quick easy and cheap. I went for a variation on the COZY

horse shoe spring

made from 6 layups of kevlar which pushes or pulls on the arm that comes up

the seat back to the push rods

and a servo, but i did this during CM build so not much help for you.

Personally i would try the "rubber band"

solution as it saves you messing up your paint job etc.

Steve,

What you describe can normally be taken out with rudder trim.

A bit of light bungee tied to the right rudder pedal, passed trough a small 

pulley attached to the firewall forward of the pedal, then back to a cleat 

of some form mounted within easy reach.

I have used a light bungy cord tied low down on the stick and going to a 

yacht cleat on the side of the tunnel, adjustable in flight.



Works a treat.

 The simplest fix was suggested some time ago by C I think C Graham S. You stick a piece of white self-adhesive door seal from the Hardware store underneath the aileron. The length is defined by trial and error. There is a p-shaped one in the ACS catalog.

I used this method, but used about a 5" long section of 3/4" balsa trailing edge from a model shop,

just taped on with white duct tape.

Cliff Shaw designed a remarkable little servo-actuated trim tab which 

is shown in detail on his Europa Builders' web page. Although optimally 

installed prior to wing closing, I see no reason why the small wires 

could not be run on the exterior of the aileron and flap closeouts if 

you have the recommended gaps between aileron/flap and the wing itself.

cliffs ability as a constructor, i'll definitly fit it if i build again, i 

just dont want to ground the A/C right now,

I installed Cliff's servo trim tab design after the fact and found it very

easy to do with little down time. Maybe down just a weekend. Go for it, you

will like it.

just use a 6 inch length of draft proofing foam, it's called a Gurney 

flap. Decide which aileron needs to be deflected up, put the foam under 

the trailing edge and test fly. If that isn't enough add a few more 

inches. You don't need the ugliness and inconvenience of a bit ao bent 

aluminum.

is that the foam on a roll thats about 1/4" wide and sticky 

on one side?, if it is i have some of that here but it is "square" in 

section, or is the type your talking about more streamline in 

appearence?



steve - thinking of approaching the LAA for a mod. to fit 

floats due to the weather here in wales...

anything will work, just needs to deflect the boundary layer a little, 

1/4" wide stuff will do it. It is a neater solution because it doesn't 

show unless you look under the wing
