Y'all;
When was the first Fire Fly built?
Yep, this is a catch question.
May interest some of you when the first one was actually built.

Morning Y'all;
The attachments are pictures of the first two Fire Fly's built by Homer.
Pic 1049, the cage on the right is the original Fire Fly built in 1959. Had a T-tail all metal, 22 foot wing span and powered by 4 X 10 hp Westbend engines. Homer only flew this one on Crow Hops .
The cage on the left is the second Fire Fly that Homer built circa 1960. This plane was powered by 2 X 14 Hp Solos engines and had a 26 foot wing span. Homer flew this Fire Fly extensively around his local area. Fire Fly number 2 was unique in several ways. It had no main wing ribs, just false leading edge ribs. It was covered with Mylar that was reinforced with fiberglass strands and the covering was attached with fiberglass reinforced shipping tape. The airfoil was shaped by air flow on the wing.
Pic 1033, Homer is cleaning No 2 up to hang in the barn, you can see the Mylar fabric on the tail surface. The shipping tape is still holding it on.
Homers next project was the Flyer.

Thanks for posting the information and pictures of the first FireFly's.
I have seen pictures of them before, in fact someone had posted them to
the list from some magazine articles in black and white with little
information. Seen them at the farm as well, but didn't know they were
designated as being FireFly's. Interesting history to my modern
FireFly. "Shipping tape"?!!!!! Thanks much!!
