I’m considering mounting the ELT antenna inside the airplane on the longeron behind the passenger side rear window. For people that have done this where are you mounting the ELT itself? Pictures would be nice.

Mine is on the floor of the tailcone right of the bellcrank assembly in the tailcone...used some angle stock atached to the J-stringers and made a floor for the bracket to be attached too...pretty basic..There is an advantage to making it accessible in the event of an unlikely water landing as you suggest behind the passenger...you could actually remove it, install the external antenna and plug your headset into it easily if needed.

I was told that antennas like these cannot "see" thru carbon fiber. Is any part of the cabin top made with carbon fiber?
Also I think that Rob Hickman from Advanced Flight Systems also has his mounted in the baggage area.

I mounted my ELT antenna just inside the baggage compartment immediately on the left almost against the fuselage. It's out of the way and in case I ever need it hopefully I will be able to get at it. I thought about putting it behind the bulkhead, which I think many have done, but as I said I wanted to be able to get at it.
Also I have an overhead console and I have the ELT antenna mounted horizontally up in the console. I've also seen some mount the antenna horizontally in the tail section area and you can access it if the rear fairing is off.
I've attached a couple of photos of where I mounted it. I've done quite a bit of traveling, using the baggage compartment, and it's nit proved to be any problem.
