What sort of numbers are people seeing for best glide speed and rates of descent? I’m curious if there is an appreciable difference between the 2-blade descent rate and the 3-blade descent rate in a power off glide? Rob have you done any testing in this arena with the hartzell? If so do you know what your descent rate is? All this talk about cruise performance between the 2 and 3 bladed guys but so far we haven’t discussed the “oh s**t” performance.

There are couple of Robs on the list ,I think. I have done the testing but won't have access to them until next week. I'll be happy to tell you mine if you tell me yours!

I’d tell you mine but I need to get busy attaching the wings and motor! Any response from a “Rob” will do of course J but I was thinking Rob Hickman but obviously didn’t make that clear…

I have not tried to measure it and I don't have enough experience flying another RV-10 with the two blade prop. Dan Benua and I flew both my RV-10 and his RV-10 on Sunday practicing IFR approaches and he felt that my RV-10 had more braking (prop drag) in the pattern. I am currently using the RV-10 for IFR training and flying over 5 hours a week with an instructor. I am finding that the 90 kts flap speed is pretty slow and the drag from the prop helps.

In practicing engine out landings in the RV-10 I have not noticed a big difference between it and my RV-4. The fine pitch stop adjustment on the prop will also make a big difference in glide performance. When I switched from the 7660 Hartzell to the composite two blade Hartzell (same large blades as on my RV-10) in my RV-4 I lost a lot of the braking that I had been used to. I am not sure if it is because of the fine pitch stop or that the large blades have more thrust at idle rpm settings.
