I recently sat in while a friend of mine had his 80% Tiger Moth Replica inspected by a inspector from the Detroit FSDO.  The inspector was knowledgeable and excellent to work with and my friend came away with his airworthiness certificate without a hassle.  The FAA guy had forgotten his temporary airman certificates blanks so he flew back in the next week to issue my friend his repairman certificate.  Talk about service!



If anyone on the group is in the Detroit FSDO's service area and would like to schedule an inspection with this inspector contact me direct and I'll give you the info.

Well, that leaves me with a question.  Do you have to be ready to fly  before the inspection?  80% Tiger Moth Replica.  What did he have left  to do at the time of inspection?

Yes, you have to be ready to fly before the inspection. I would assume that 80% refers to 80% scale not 80% complete.

Sorry for the confusion.  My friend built a Fisher Tiger Moth which is 80% of the size of an actual Tiger Moth.  When he sent the airworthiness application and associated paperwork to the FSDO the airplane was ready to fly and had been ground run and taxied.  



I had gotten the impression from my research that getting the FAA to come out in a timely manner was almost impossible and indeed the office responsible for such certification is located in Cleveland.  I was going to hire a designated inspector but after working with this fellow and another from Detroit on a Field Approval for my Champ I think I'll try to go with them.

Ok, time for some self-advertisement!



I just purchased Fisher Flying Products, the company who makes the kit for the 80% Tiger Moth, which I must say is a great plane!



If you want to learn more, come to our website at www.fisherflying.com.  The Tiger Moth is one of the first planes we are going to re-introduce into production.

 

The only way I can justify posting this on the list is that I am 90% done my 601XL with 90% to go.   Just put it on the gear today.

Glad to hear Fisher is going to continue. Those are some neat little planes and if I didn't hate working with wood I probably would have built one. I almost bought a completed Classic from Mike Makepeace. He is/was one of Fisher's dealers and flys out of our downtown airport.
