|
|
Hello folks,
I'm at that point where I need to drill through the pre-drilled fuselage forward skins into the upright channels (6B5-6). The rear frame channel is already drilled and clecoed to the fuselage floor using the pre-drilled holes there. Before I drill the uprights, I will ensure that the rear frame channel is at 77.5 degrees (using the plywood template) as specified in the plans. My concern is that, using this method, I'm taking it on faith that the rear spar attach plates will be in the right position for later wing attachment. All of this is without a wing jig as Zenith tells me I don't need one since I have the predrilled fuselage kit. Did this approach work for everyone else with the predrilled skins or do I need to build a jig to be absolutely sure of my rear attach plate positioning?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Sounds like you have two options. Trust Zenith that the holes are all in the right place or make the jigs.
I seem to remember using the top of the wing jig for something other than just making sure the angle was right but it may have been something that isn't required with the pre-drilled skins.
You guys with all this pre-drilled stuff don't know how easy you have it.

Right on Gig
When all those predrilled holes line up it must make it real easy. I remember I spent hours and hours with levels trying to get it right. Mine seems right so far and I should be flying in a few more months

I do have to admit there was some deep feelings of accomplishment mixed with a certain level of surprise when two pieces that were built completely separate fit together perfectly when mated up.
