I am planning on flying my 701 from Central Ohio to Minneapolis, MN. My
Rotax 912ULS prefers 91 octane mogas and I have found several airports
along my route that sell 91 mogas. If the winds are favorable there and
back (fat chance!) I would be able to make it with two fuel stops, but I
would like several alternatives. I can purchase 91 mogas near Chicago at
Cushing Field (0C8) and near Minneapolis at Stanton Airfield (KSYN). I
would like to add a fuel stop between Columbus (KOSU) and Cushing and one
between Cushing and KSYN. Any of you Rotax flyers in those areas know of
a field with 91 mogas?

Jeff,
How did you find those airports that sell 91 mogas along your route?
Have you (or any other listers) ever tried http://www.fltplan.com/? It
generates a flight plan for you automatically, including winds aloft for the
time you plan to travel, fuel burn and time enroute at different altitudes,
and many other features. It has fuel availability at FBOs on the route but I
have never seen mogas and I don't think they would list it even if it were
available, the service is mostly for professional pilots.
And did I mention it's free?

You can use the advanced search feature on airnav to find airports that have mogas, but it does not list the octane, however, you can call the airports for that as the contact information is listed on the site..

Good resource Dan, but scary. The number of airports that sell mogas seems to be scarcer than rocking horse poop.

The alternative I use when cross country is to bring two empty
jerry cans. I borrow the staff car and fill it too at the local name-
branded gas station along with my cans (plastic 5 gal US containers
actually).
I also carry a small TCP or equiv set in the back of the cargo bay,
just in case.

While 91 octane is best, using 100LL the little that we usually travel is not that terrible. I would recommend getting some Decalin (Aircraft Spruce)(use .5oz. per 10 gals) and that will greatly help with the occasional use of 100LL.

We recently acquired a RANS S6S w/ 912UL with about 650 hours TTAE. It has been run primarily (at least 65-70%) on 100LL. I am told by the previous owner that its oil and filter were changed at 25 hour intervals per Rotax spec. using Pennzoil Motorcyle Oil and have no reason to believe otherwise. Yet, we were a little concerned about the gearbox so did the Rotax gearbox inspection SB last week. We found the gearbox clean with no lead deposits whatsoever. The springs, which do wear with use, were still well within service limits. The gear meash areas showed where the gears were in contact with each other but no measurable wear, all perfectly normal. The spring wear was a little more than the previous gearbox inspection we did on an airplane with about the same time but primarily run on mogas. The difference was minor.
Bottom line, I would not worry the least about running 100LL when necessary as long as you conform to Rotax's recommendations for oil type, use Rotax oil filters and change oil/filter per their maintenance intervals.

apply to the 2 stroke 582UL which has no oil sump?

I agree if you are using a four stroke engine.
For TCP to work it must be burned. I will not protect a two stroke engine
from lead plating on the main bearings. It will keep the combustion chamber
cleaner.
