Listers,
Some time ago, several owners of CH701 described how they warmed the engine before starting it in cold weather. I failed to save any of these e-mails.
I would appreciate recommendations for my application. I have CH701 with Rotax 912ULS waiting in the hanger. I have 120 volt power available.
Many thanks,
Ken

Ken,
Rotax says you need to build the oil temps up to 120-degrees before running the engine fast. The exact specs are in the Rotax manual. I know truckers who use special heating blankets and even talked with a guy who said he builds a fire under his engine to get it going on cold days in Alaska. Since I live in California I never had to pre-heat the engine so I can't recommend any devices. It takes about 10 minutes idling for the oil to get to 120-degrees on my 912ULS. I purchased an oil bypass thermostat system to speed this up, but decided not to install it because it would add a lot of extra piping with extra potential for oil system failure (anyone want to buy it?).
