My landing gear bungees now sag enough to raise the strut plate a
good 1/2" above the wing surface when parked. This is relatively new.
These bungees were purchased with the kit circa 1995 ... I guess it's
time to replace them even though the airframe is still low
time ....? Is there a "specification" for how much sag is allowed?
Does anyone have a good source for these bungees? I recall
discussions a few years ago where there were some issues finding new
bungees of the appropriate length. Is this still a problem?
Thanks in advance
Grant

Grant, Zenith says they are 1080HD bungees. ACS has them listed as
Mill Fresh Shock Rings
<http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/lgpages/shock_rings.php> size
1080HD for $19.30 each.

Leo - thanks. I ordered them at ACS - but my link shows 35$US each
for the 1080HD. fwiw
<http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/lgpages/
shock_rings.php> size
1080HD for $19.30 each.
I searched the archives and I think that in the past some builders
had problems but it might have involved subbing a 1080 non-HD?
(stretchier?), or a 1280HD (3/4" thick vs. 5/8") ...
At the same time I'm installing Mac Machine's lower gear plate
upgrade (to 1/8" by 90mm) and the plastic bearings top and bottom on
the struts.
Does anyone happen to have any good sequential instructions for
changing out the bungees? It's been a long time since I assembled
all that and I did it on a work bench. I'm not looking forward to
doing it now from under the plane, in a 'dirty' gear box with
accumulated dust and grease...
You can be sure I thought deeply about changing the whole thing over
to one of the spring/steel legs ala XL but... $$$ and total weight
tipped the scales back to the original gear legs.
Thanks all
Grant
