OK, I've spent way too much time searching for this answer. What do you think of glassing over the heads of the seatbelt countersunk screws in the canopy? Are others making this permanent? Will it crack over time? Just seal the screw and paint the screw head?

Don't give it a second thought. Just glass it, epoxy, or cover it up. Just keep in mind that you will need to put your headliner in and it might be easier to perforate it when you install the headliner and just punch the two bolts thru.

I don't know, but I found usefulness in removing my seat belts
about 1.5 years after I started flying, to do some additional
bracket making for some lights. I'd hate to think of what
those screws would do if glassed in and you ever had to try to
remove them. They don't look that bad on the outside, do they?
I never thought so.

change/repair your belt system.

why bonding that screw into the cabin top keeps you from unbolting the
harness from the inside. If it's the fact that the screw wants to turn
..... I think you could just take a small chisel and smack some
'indents' around the circumference of the screw head. Help me
understand here.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I'm closing in on paint preparation and altho there aren't many pictures of the tops of canopies, I couldn't remember seeing a single screw head on the surface of the roof. Now's the time to do it, if I'm going to.
Since the nut is on the inside, I thought folks were glassing in the screw so that just a stud is in the inside -- then you could always change out belts or whatever. Maybe burr up the edges of the flat head so that when glassed in, it wouldn't turn ... or "smack some indents" if you will!
By the way, I'm dealing with recently diagnosed prostate cancer and I think the average age of our group indicates this may be a commonality -- so contact me off line if you want to take advantage of my research. lewgall(at)charter.net

I just really don't see indents holding that screw necessarily
tightly so that it wouldn't just rip the fiberglass and crack
all the paint if you ever turned the nut.
I left my screw unpainted, unashamed of it being there. But,
you could always paint the screw the same color as the cabin
top and it would be barely noticeable. Or, cover it with a
waterproof white plastic sticker and you'd just see the outline
of the screwhead.
Not covering it makes it a very very minor cosmetic issue.
Covering it makes it a maintenance issue that may cause you to
some day have to repaint the cabin top. It's also high enough
up that it's very hard to see when the plane is on gear.
But enough from me on it. Everyone can choose as they feel
best, and then they deal with the choices later if they
have to...it's the beauty of building it your own way....your
choices aren't someone else's problems, and vice versa.
