Any options out there besides Airpower and Cannon (or US Specialty)? I've had US Specialty on two different aircraft and it seems like their specialty is screwing pilots.

Scooter,
I have no idea what you are paying for insurance and I am also sure it's none of my business either. However, I will say the price I am paying through Airpower, Tom Johnson, is as good if not better, than I could get anywhere else. I went with Airpower over Cannon because at equal numbers I decided supporting another Yak/CJ driver who supports us was the right thing to do.

Truthfully Scooter, that is the goal of any insurance coverage. Whether it
is boat, plane, car, life, health, or home.

Well, sort of... remember that if you get a quote from one agent
(Airpower), and then go to another agent you will either get the same
quote or a "no bid" because it is NOT the agent getting you the
insurance. It is the insurance company that they are going to for the
insurance. The insurance company keeps your "quote" on file and will
give the same to any other agent that requests a quote.

I have heard that when you shop for insurance, don't give then the N number. When you do give the N number you get locked in to that quote. Example,,, I am LOOKING at buying a Yak, what is my insurance going to be?

If you have to give an N number, look in Trade a Plane and find a bird that is similar to what you need. It works well but it kind of screws the guy with the plane for sale.

I've heard that as well. But as Tom said, there are really only 2
insurance companies that provide yak insurance. The different agents
all go to the same 2 insurance companies.

Okay, not sure what happened with my previous post, but what I said was that I found the cheapest insurance with Avemco for my Yak 55.
I have an ATP and a bunch of hours, but 0 time in type, so they hammered me for about 2600/year. But they still beat everyone else's quote, and I bugged everyone!

That is almost $1000.00 more than what I pay for my Yak-50 with a 75K hull value! I too have an ATP with over 3000 hours and had zero time in type. Now that I fly the thing as much as I can, it will drop!
Its with Cannon right now but will look at TJ when it comes due.

Yeah, I checked with everyone and most other companies wanted over 3500 for 55K hull value! I also have to carry the 1 million for acro competitions, but that doesn't affect the price that much.
Maybe it's a trend of companies not trusting these a/c? I am praying that it will go down next year!

Did you try Falcon? I'm a CPL with about 1500 hours, but 0 in type and they only hit me for $2200 for my -55.
BTW, you'll LOVE the 55!

I sure did try them, tried them first and they wanted 3200 bucks. Apparently females are higher risk these days. This was all in the last month, so I don't know if they just went up, but you guys are making me think I am getting the big screw job here.

I have a Yak-55 and am insured thru Tom Johnson's agency as he is quite
familiar with the Yaks and own a Yak-50. Try TomJohnson(at)cox.net and see if
he can help, his website link is below. My policy is in the $1500 range if
memory serves. Last year it was $1700 with no time in type! If you've
checked several insurance companies within a short period its quite likely
you've been locked out of getting a better quote (unless you've used an
artificial N number).

I did go to TJ but it was *after* getting the crappy quotes from other people. (Falcon/AOPA/Avemco). He couldn't do any better than Avemco. I used the existing N # and went thru the previous owners insurance (Falcon) expecting a decent quote, perhaps a bit higher due to my 0 time in type, but wasn't expecting double what he was paying!
Okay, I think I am going to go stick my head in an oven now...you guys are killing me! How did I get the big screw? UGH

Group,
Currently I see the two biggest obsticales to aviation as fuel and insurance
prices.
Why is it that with the power of AOPA/EAA that they have not started their own
insurance sections, that sell insurance to aircraft owners at a reasonable rates?
