I have both tanks teed together before the fuel shut off. I have the return installed
in the left tank,I have just gottenit running I put about 3/4 of fuel
inthe left tank and ran the engine. I noticed fuel running out the left wing

Hi! Tracy
It seems to me that your return to the left tank is so quick that it is
overwhelming the pipe to the right tank. So increase the pipe diameter
to the right tank across the "tee"

Put a shut off on your right tank... leave it off until your left tank is at least a half a tank down.

is ther a better way to get the fuel to level in both tanks quicker?
anybody have the same issues with a 914?
I know ther arent to many out there in a 701.

Teed wing tanks rarely work as expected.

In our project, the fuel valve switches return lines as well as feed
fuel lines. So the fuel goes back into the tank it came from.

thanks for the info. im thinking which will work best ,being simple to operate and easy to mod in.
I would have to get the right tank out and weld in a fitting and plum more lines to an aircraft already together.
im thinking a colletor tank would be simplest.

Tracy--
Did you put a restriction in the return line?  I believe that Rotax indicates that the return line should be restricted to a cross section of 3mm or about 1/16 of an inch.  This would slow the fuel movement and keep the fuel level consistent in both tanks.

George and all,

Our 914 Installation Manual specified :
"The fuel reutrn must be a line of *low resistance*. Max tolerated
pressure loss is *0.1 bar* (1.5 psi) between fuel pressure control and
tank inlet with *both* electric fuel pumps in action."

So in my opinion, the fuel return line should NOT be restricted.
The 914 is different from the 912 series.

Best regards,

Do not reduce the flow in the return line or the fuel pressure regulator will not be able to do its job.

Tracy,

I have a 914 installed on a Kitfox Series 7 and run both tanks to a small 1 gallon header (intermediate tank) tank and plumbed the return line to the top of this tank. I have about 30 hours on this setup and everything is working great and both wing tanks drain at the same rate. Another benefit of the header tank is the elimination of possible air bubbles in the fuel. This would be my recommendation for you.
