I have been involved in my annual inspection. Removed the cowling and
found a lose cht bolt and a wire lom nut had come off. I have had some
trouble with the EIS. My tach was working intermintaly and the cht that
was irregular was deffinatly the blot that had worked lose. The tack
problem was where I had made a solder connection at a plastic conector
plug. it vibrated till the wire workhardned and brke lose. The shrink
tubing held the ends together that's why the intermint operation.Decided
to do something drastic B4 I started you can see the results in the
photos. B flying next week

Nice workmanship Craig. You make this builder feel like a lazy bum.
As far as things coming loose, if it can, it will.

Craig,
I used a similar electrical connector system on the Victor 1+. I found that
if one does not closely control the wire flex next to the connector, they
will, in time, vibrate in two. You may want to consider laying a soft piece
of tubing across and above the wires to keep them vibrating relative to the
connector.

I like to collar the joint with shrink tube. Looks nice, is
waterproof, and reduces flex.

Seems like I had heard that you shouldn't solder wires on airplanes due to
that very problem. What do you guys think?
I used only crimp connectors in my plane. You also need to support the wires
as much as possible to keep them from moving and breaking.

agreed, I use only crimp. My weak spot is the push-on flag
connectors on my ignition module.
I bought the best ones I could find.
ok so far.

John good to see you back where u been? U at nellis? Been doing some fun
flying. Yaw it fly's believe it or not-- ha-ha-- I have shamed milow
into working on his plane. it has been hours away from engine start for
3 years. After he came over the other day and saw my RDAC installation
and knew I spent only one day with 3 times the connections I shamed him
to work on the fire star. he has actually made the brackets for his RDAC
and installed them. he is almost done with the bracket to hold the
rectifier. I told him I would help him with the wire crimps and heat
shrink tubing.thats about all he is lacking. I feel my plane is built
ok, but tim is really fanatical about his. He has helped me and any
mistake on mine he learned from it and made his with no errors.. when I
help milow.. if I leave a finger print on it he freaks out,,, it is
immaculate. He allowed me to help him bleed the brakes and I spilled a
few drops of fluid on the floor I have yet to hear the end of it. Not to
mention I tipped his cordless drill over and scratched the drill......
Hopefully we will start his engine on thanksgiving.
