Do any one fill the centre of the pulled rivets with somthing like PRC or an expoxy?
I ask as they filled on the wing of a Eurostar, so the centre is sealed of from water ( so they say , but does look alot better )
Thoughts please as there are alot !

This is a subject that interests me also. Some thoughts:
1) I suspect paint would keep the water out.
2) Those pulled heads aren't attractive. I saw a 601XL at Sun N Fun which
looked really great, except for those pulled heads! They were a real
detractor to the looks.
3) Anything that fills the head gradually adds to the weight, which is not
good.
Is it worth doing a test in a relatively controlled environment? That is, take
a sheet of aluminum, drill some holes, and pull a handfull of rivets. Fill
each rivet with a candidate product, and see how they fare.
Thoughts? Comments? It may be so nit-noy it isn't worth doing, but I sure
don't like the appearance of those heads.

Painting your plane will fill in the rivets to seal out the water, for
the most part. Filling every rivet hole with epoxy or other material is
hugely time consuming, taking away from your flying. It does look great
right after you paint your plane. However this does not last, over time
with flexing, landings, small children, ( they can be blamed for
everything) those fillings will pop out leave unsightly holes in your
paint job. Better to just paint and move on.

If appearance is really that much of an issue, why not go all the way, replace all the rivets with flush rivets and fill all the holes?
Just a thought. It really doesn't concern me one bit, 'cause I built an airplane, not a museum piece.

My answer would apply only to me, and not to everyone else.
Having said that, I held off on the XL for a long time, because I didn't like
the look of the pulled rivets. One of the curses of age is that I can no
longer shoot or buck any significant number of standard rivets. It just plain
hurts. The vibration and shock of the rivet gun does unpleasant things to me.
That pretty much forced me into the arena of pulled rivets, and a pneumatic
puller.
Said another way, the aircraft I am able to build is significantly better than
the one I cannot build.

Trust me... When you complete it or even get close to completion the look of those pulled rivets won't bother you in the least.
As far as something filling the head and adding weight goes. Isn't that exactly what you are suggesting doing?

Weight is a major reason I haven't jumped on this bandwagon with both feet
(other than time).
I've looked at completed XLs that Zenith had on display at Sun 'N Fun. Sorry,
the look of the pulled rivets does bother me. It may not bother me enough to
get me to add the weight and go through the hassle, though.

If the look of the domed rivets bothers you, then you can always dimple the understructure and skins, then use a standard nose piece on your riveter to produce a flush finish, of course you still have a hole, but the appearance is quite nice.

...and the rivet is the original engineered piece it was developed to be with no variation due to varying degrees of shank to head work hardening...
