When my tri gear was first completed a couple of years ago, it weighed
in at what I thought was a creditable 818 lbs. Since then, as most of
us do I guess, I have played about and added a few extra's such as fire
extinguisher, first aid kit, tool roll, Hi viz jackets etc. each of
which I considered would make no significant difference to the W&B
calcs. Whilst my bird is at home at present, and I have just replaced
the tailplane torque tube pins and fitted new tyres, I decided to check
the weight again. I have put on 45lbs! Now two up, with full fuel, I
can carry three whole pounds of baggage before becoming overweight. I
guess I need to go on a diet!

As it happens, last weekend I weighed an aircraft using digital load pads
loaned by a certain UK-based microlight association. They came with a
current certificate of calibration, traceable to National Standards and
issued by an ISO9000/1-accredited company.
The scales underread by 7%. Either that or the half stone I'd put on over
Xmas has suddenly vanished.
However, the second load cell in the set seemed to give credible results.
Can't trust anyone!

Richard - my records show 805 lbs at first flight - but maybe that
was before other vital items were fitted. I'll change it to 863
now. Any advance on the 130 hours flown in late 2004?

From personal experience i know that ultralight kilos weigh 25 % less then
real life kilos.

Post Script to previous mesasge. Just received my fuel drain mod from
Europa. I guess it will weigh about three pounds when fitted. Ah well,
who needs baggage anyway!
