After 71/2 yrs (300hr) on my 582, I decided to pull it down and look at it for the first time. I can happily report that in all aspects, the engine spec'd within new limits, or just outside new and well within wear limits. (Rotax repair manual specs) The outer main bearings were a bit rough, and thus replaced. I replaced 4 bearings (Rotax - airplane) ($314 delivered) and a gasket kit ($84 delivered - Mark Smith) for a total investment of $400.
That's 7 1/2 yrs. or $53/yr. I couldn't even come close to that on my Lycoming. I'm not trying to start an argument, I just wanted to post facts. When manufactures list TBO like 2000hrs or whatever, it doesn't mean that many hours with no $$ spent, but just when the parts might be worn out. my .02

Larry,
Thanks for letting us know. Mine is at 235 right now. I may go to at least 350 before doing mine.
What type of oil are you using?

I used Pennzoil and Chevron both air cooled oils. I think that the hrs is not a big factor as much as the calender time. The parts were new, except for some main outer bearing corrosion and a inner race/ball bearing cage was cracked, but intact. I think it was a good time for me, I wouldn't want to guess how much longer it would have gone. My seals, which many people would say is the reason to check the engine were quite good - just starting to show signs of deterioration, but no "guck" weeping yet. I flew short time, but frequently, averaging once a week all year.
