The Van’s assembly order for the wings has the bottom skins going on before you work on the aileron and flap actuation controls. I’m assuming that there is no problem keeping the bottom skins off until these steps are completed. It seems to me that it would a whole lot easier working on these last couple of steps without the skins instead on working through the access panels.
For those that did this, how long did you leave you bottom skins off?
I’ve got a pretty good idea on what I need to put into the wings, so I’m not overly concerned about having to go back into them later. I also have a conduit pulled, so adding wiring later shouldn’t be a big deal. I’m debating about whether or not to close them up now or wait until just before mounting the wings.
Thanks in advance for your comments.

I would suggest following the order per the plans. I encountered no problems following the plans / Vans order. Also, you will not risk the possibility of creating a new problem because of order. Just my 2 cents worth. Remember - If it's not broken, don't try and fix it.There are way too many other things that you will need to focus on.Jim CombsN312F, 40192 - DAR inspection this week - Darned COLD here too!Do Not Archive> The Van's assembly order for the wings has the bottom skins going on> before you work on the aileron and flap actuation controls. I thought as you did. So I installed the controls. And ended up taking
most of them back out in order to be able to buck the bottom skins
without having them in the way. In hindsight, it worked out because I
was able to get all of the controls pretty much fit and adjusted with
lots of access, and then putting them back in once the bottom skins were
on wasn't that difficult.

Bob, I followed the instructions and closed them. I don't see a problem
either way. The control tubes would have to come off later because they
will get in the way of riveting the bottom skins.

As others have said, it's maybe easier to fit them before the skins
are on, but you'll end up taking them out anyway. Not a big deal.
The Aileron Trim though, that you end up having to wait until the
skins are on, since the servo mounts on an access plate. So you
can get the control rods built, and assemble the bellcranks, but
I wouldn't finish the assembly to make it all function...you'll
want to re-adjust and do all that when the wings are mounted on the
fuselage anyway.
