Does anyone have pictures for the fuel sending unit  installations that were put on the top on the wings tanks?

 If I could go back and redo my tanks, I would not  install the senders on the tank ends.

 Man o man,  wait til you need to remove yours.  Then, the re install is a killer...

 I remember someone on this site that did the  modification displayed pictures.......

 My plan is to do the same....

I'm pretty sure there is a photo or two on my site www.peoamerica.net/N601WR. I did the top mount during the build because it just seemed like a good idea. My original plans showed the top mount and then when I got the wing and fuel kit there was an insert with the side mount. I was pretty sure at the time I'd be better off with a hole in the top of the tank rather than a hole in the side as far as future leaks went and either way the wing was probably going to have to be opened up if the sender needed to be changed.



Looking back I wish I had done the access port thing and will if I have to open the wings up in the future.

Is there anything that could be done to make the re-install of the side mount fuel senders easier? 



It looks like it's possible to do it through the fingerscreen access panel on the bottom of the LE skin, but I haven't got to the stage of installing my senders yet. Why was the re-install such a killer?

You are to install/remove the sender thru the lighting hole in the nose 

rib..

Actually,  my seal leaked and I had to remove the sender to re-seal it.  It 

was a bit of a pain but not really that hard to do.

Do you know what caused the seal to leak? what did did you re-seal it with?

My seal doesnt leak...  Thats good.  My sending unit doesnt work, thats 

bad....

If I must remove the darn thing I m going to move it to the upper skin where 

it would be easy to install....

before you remove,  check the senders' negative or (grounding).  mine did not work until I realied the groupnging sucked,  redid and voila!

I actually did a bit of a redesign on my tanks for ease of contruction as well as ease of maintenance as well as reduce the number of possible "problem" areas in the tank. I bought a sender and gauge from Pep Boys for $40, a filler neck from a boat dealer for $12 and will mount the sender arm on the filler neck so the sender will be accessible simply by removing the filler neck from the tank. Being that the sender requires a gasket anyway, I figured I'd rather have that gasket on top of the tank rather than the side, plus it makes getting at the sender that much easier. The filler tank will be bolted to the tank on top obviously and the whole assembly will be hidden under a water tight deckplate I also bought from a boat dealer for $9. I hope to have pictures soon on my website if I can manage to download them from my camera. I think the whole design is pretty sweet really. The vent tube and ground wire will also be accessible under the deckplate. Moving the whole assembly to the top reduced the number of difficult welds (now just the seams and two fittings, outlet and drain) and moves an assembly that requires a gasket anyway to the top from the side. If I have to have a gasket, I'd rather it on top.
