Looking for ideas before I make something myself. Understand gear doors are an issue unless an offcenter jack pad is used?

Mike,

 A full set of jacks consist of 4 jacks.  A "headed" jack which goes under the engine, 2 "stub wing" jacks and a tail support jack. Normal price for a full set of 4 stock Chinese jacks is about $1K, bought seperatly about 250 to 300 each.  All have rollers on them so they move easily in the shop.  They are screw type, not hyd, so they have no leak down problems if left overnight.  All have the proper fittings, off set to clear the gear doors on the stub wing jacks, cly support fittings on the engine jack, and a skid fitting on the tail support jack.  Making your own is possible but if you use hyd jacks and feel that you will ever have to leave the aircraft on jacks for a long period of time you should make safety locks to prevent any leaking down as sometimes happens with hyd jacks.  Jacking the aircraft without proper support can be very expensive.  I have seen one aircraft laying on the shop floor with the jacks sticking up through the wings-- so it can happen.  A tail weight or tie dwn ring in the floor can be used instead of the engine and tail jacks, but is it not as secure as having all four jacks under the aircraft especially when it comes time to get up into the cockpit to operate the gear lever.  Rather the strain placed on the tail cone while using a weight or tie down is good or bad I really have no idea.

Cylinder stud bolts are not an in stock item.  Any ideas?

Mike,

 Not back yet, stuck in Beijing until the 20th.

 Cly studs are on order, but 60 days out at the min.

 Look in the parts books and you can see the jacks or wait till I get back and I'll send you some photos.

Doug and Mike:  I purchased a set of the Chinese Jacks back in 1995 when I bought my CJ, it was one of the best investments I've made in regards to the airplane. When the machine is up on all 4 jacks it is solid as a rock, you can crawl all over it, and it never wiggles.. Also you can leave it there for long as need be, and never worry about it leaking down or tipping off the jacks, ( Unless You live in California, then an Earthquake might bounce it off !).
