Congrats Ron!! What a beauty...

Would love to see that GRT setup you have.. I'm considering it as well..

PS. I'm curious about the serial number on the tail -- how did you pick it?
44-72258 is a North American P-51D-20-NA Mustang (c/n 122-38717) that was
sold to Swiss AF back in 1948, and subsequently registered J-2066 over
there.

Hi Rad,

You are really sharp! The Mustang I stole the paint scheme from is
"Little Joe" from the 363FS, 357F, flown by Lt Joe Canon. That's the
same outfit that Chuck Yeager and C. E. "Bud" Anderson flew with. I
went to school and AF pilot training with Bud's son, Jim. I met Bud at
Oskosh last year and told him about the RV-8. He wanted me to paint it
like his airplane, the "Old Crow" but I thought that was a bit overused.
I never saw a replica of "Little Joe" and I liked the scheme but I don't
know anyone named "Joe". "Izzy" is my grand daughter. "Little Joe"
refers to a pair of deuces in craps and there were two die below the
name. I replaced the dice with kids blocks. Other than the name the
rest of the scheme is faithful to the original airplane. You are
right... The airplane ended up in the Swiss Air Force after WWII.
Rad, I'm very happy with the GRT EFIS. It has tons of capabilities and
they keep adding more features. They just added terrain to the data
base and weather and traffic is available if you have a Garmin 330
transponder and XM satelite. (I don't). I'll be spending a lot of my
flyoff time getting familiar with the EFIS. Yesterday I was too busy
enjoying the airplane to fiddle with it. Come over and take a look.

Hi George,

I don't have any pictures of the installation, but the RV-8 is probably
a lot different than the -7. I tied it to the elevator bellcrank behind
the baggage compartment. It is really not a difficult installation.

Ron
