Had a forced landing in a cotton field. Thought it was carb ice, so I automatically ordered the carb heat kit from Lockwood.
Turns out that the problem was a totally clogged fuel filter (little black and clear plastic fibers).
It's a nice looking unit which circulates hot water around the carbs
Have decided I don't need it - perhaps someone in a more humid climate could use it?
Paid $295. Will sell for $220 plus $10 shipping.

I will take it. I have a ring mount and the $1200 heater box does not fit on a ring mount 912S.
I am up in Alberta Canada. How do you want the money? Email me offline and i can arrange. I use paypal but other means can be arranged.
Thanks

Why is your filter clogged? I had a gyro once or twice and the fuel
filters kept stopping up. What it was, was little pieces of foam
breaking loose from that "anti-blow up foam" RAF used. They used all
the little pieces to fill in the voids. You should check out why it was
stopped up. There is a reason and it isn't good. Don't just use a band
aid, fix it. Take care, Larry N1345L

IRM:
I had just gotten fuel at Colinga, Ca. in some ferocious winds - 25-40 knots on landing. Don't know if I can blame the fuel or not. The engine started missing about 20 minutes later, and just kept getting worse.
When I cracked the filter open (the small plastic cone filters from ACS) there were obvious hairs everywhere. Put in a new similar filter and flew it 20 minutes to Los Banos and drained all of the fuel. Fueled up and installed another similar filter, and flew it 2.5 hours home. Will be installing a larger fuel filter.
Still don't know the source of the fibers. They melt when I heat them. The fuel getting to the filter had to go through the screen of my ACS gascolator and down 1 foot of hose to get to the filter. There were no obvious fibers on the screen. A real mystery.........Fred

Hi Mark,
Why does the heater box not fit with the ring mount? Is the problem with the ring mount, or Zenith's firewall mount? I have a 912 with a box and planned to put it in with the ring mount. Do you think the box could be modified?
Thanks,
Tommy Walker in Alabama

You do know that in the old Skyshop FWF with the bedmount that they modified
the air box. They sliced the center section out and rotated it to make the
hot and cold air inlets vertical. Presumably they did this to make the
airbox fit in a 701.
Pictures attached, hopefully.

Tommy I should re state that. It is the Zenith FWF mount that attaches to the ring mount. The two upper arms do not allow for the heater box to sit down and align with the carbs. I don't think there is any way to modify it to fit.
If anyone knows a mod to make it work? With the bed mount the upper arms are at sharper angle and allow for the installation.

Mike did you take a look at the pictures Craig uploaded about modifying the air box? I wonder if that would work in getting it to fit?
