Hi all ,
maybe I am missing something here but is there any reason why not to fit the gussets on the out side of the skin? I would add 2 more rivets on the open sides to pull up the skins.
I have seen this on big planes .

I put gussets on the outside. Real easy to do, looks O.K. But it is easy to open a couple of rivets and slip them under the skin and close it up also. I think it is worth doing no matter which way.

Sabrina,
I have the standard flex hinges. I used A5's on both the gussets, going through three thicknesses of metal I use A5's.

Al,
Do you have piano hinge or flex hinge ailerons?
Did you add them per the Zenith plans aft of the aileron hinge or did you tie
the aft aileron hinge portion to the ribs?
Did you use A4 or AS5 rivets on the inboard aft attach rivet position?

sabrina
i riveted on top as i did not want to take more parts apart as i have rtf xl
looks ok an is for sure a help
i work normaly with racecar design and there we bond about everything for various reasons so i also used structural 3M adisive and rivits ( when once the glue is completly hardend the gussets will be nearly impossible to remove only with a lot of heat)

Sabrina,
As you can see it would be just as easy to open a couple more rivets and slide them underneath,
it would be easier to pick up the rivet holes that way. You may have a stress point from the outboard end of the gusset where the wing skin bends down to the spar cap when the aileron flexes the skin in a parallel plane to the cap. I think it is minimal though.

Al pics are similar to mine, i can still post u some but i think you can see all at Al pics
i also got this mail from Nick Heintz
......The recommend position of the gusset is underneath the top skin.
Note: how the gusset overlaps the skin is not critical. On your aircraft, if you preferred, it would be acceptable to have it overlap on the outside.
