I am in the process of obtaining an RV10 quick-build kit the previous owner has lost interest. Tony Partain is scheduling to deliver next month. Just wanted to introduce myself as I will probably be active here obtaining good info from all of you. I previously built a slow build 6 completed in '04 and have about 300 hours with a most recent trip from Michigan to the Florida Keys, Marathon in particular, was a great fishing trip and great flying. Along the past few years our flying mission has changed, my wife has decided she would like to participate in the trips my 11 year old son and I have been doing, fly-ins etc, plus other reasons for obtaining a 4 place airplane. She would also like a new kitchen. We kid each other about it but she has put up with a lot while I was building the 6 and I'm glad she says she would be involved in this project (as long as she gets her kitchen). I've been checking out many sites I can find regarding 10 projects and the more I look the!
more questions I've been coming up with, but will just keep reading as I know some of the questions get answered about the time I start typing so will save some for later. For now keep up the good work, look forward to meeting all and seeing some the 10's here someday.

Dave,
Welcome to the list. After finishing the empennage kit I had a 3 months wait for the next kit, so I used the time to build my wife her dream kitchen. It turned out to be one of the best moves I ever made. She has never complained about the time and money I have put in the 10. Of course she also thinks the 10 costs about the same as her kitchen...not.
A happy wife is a happy life.

Is there a link between the RV10 and Kitchens? I completely remodeled the master bath prior to starting the project. Then, right before Osh, started on a COMPLETE remodel of the kitchen. Two walls removed, which doubled the size, granite instead of the 70's yellow tile, etc.... but for me too, it was the best thing for the project.

The 10 I purchased has the empennage and empacone completed but not joined together, servo has been installed in one wing, Dynon heated pitot installed, wingtips fitted and Archer antennae installed. The workmanship is excellent, I flew out to Arizona to check out the kit. It comes with a Flightline a/c kit which I probably won't be using, at least that is current thinking. I believe where I will be starting is cabin/cabin top fiberglass, control sticks, floor areas. I look forward to seeing the difference in plans between the 6 and 10. I have the finish kit on order also, not sure about engine yet.
The kitchen thing--my wife loves woodworking, she has built a complete wall desk area with cabinets, drawers, formica top; also a wall bookcase, a short room divider/bookcase for homeschooling room with routreing and formica; she has been changing the trim in our house from cheap trim to more custom routred baseboard and door trim. She's not afraid to tackle large projects, it just takes a while for her to plan and think it through. I'm glad she loves it, I had to buy her a table saw one year, a routre, joiner, 10" mitre saw, routre table, routre bits, gluing clamps. Nice thing is I get to use these tools for airplane projects too. Most of our friends can't believe she likes to do this but it is her thing so I just help her out which is ok with me. She dreams, draws plans, it's a slow process but eventually gets completed, kind of like it will be building the 10.

I recall hearing the average stay in one home is about six years. Judging from how long it seems to take building an RV10 it's no wonder that a kitchen or other home improvement project pops up. I had a four month delay prior to starting the 10 while completing the house and shop.
I recall Ben Westfall talking kitchen a couple weeks ago.
Time to get back to work drawing the floor plan for my next home project, no, better yet I'll go back to bolting in the main gear weldments. Almost done with Sec. 29
