Had some recent breaks in the weather so I was able to do some flight tests. I changed the clocking of my 2 blade Hartzell from the 1-7 position to 3-9 position using methods and materials outlined by Mike Stewart in prior posts. My engine is a stock 250 HP IO540C4B5 with one EI and one mag.I did not have access to a vibration analyzer so I dont have any real scientific data to report, but I am happy to announce that I am very pleased with the results, I had a very noticable harmonic that shook the whole airframe, and now most of it is gone. It is a whole different airplane and a real joy to fly. I would say that Mike's numbers are pretty much right on in relation to before and after vibration amplitude.
It was not a difficult task in my opinion, I built a fixture out of 2 X 12's to clamp the prop in the drill press, then took it to the prop shop and had them re-install the studs with new locktite and roll pins while they checked out the pitch angles and static balance. I would recommend
this mod to anybody having similar vibration problems.
