The best way is to use the forum interface to post your photos then when it goes out
to the mail list, they'll be referenced as URLs. Saves a lot on mail overhead.

Pretty simple, go to the forums link:

<http://forums.matronics.com/>

Register if you haven't already done so, select the Kitfox Forum, then compose what
you want and you'll have the opportunity to attach files and descriptions.

Tip:

When you register, completely fill out the form and select a username that you want to
be known by, rather than your e-mail address or a part of it.

Once registered, you can view and post on any Matronics forum and you have the option
of getting postings e-mailed or not. You'll find this is probably a better way than
posting to the list. But you can have it both ways, with or without mail.

Hmmmm....do I detect a bit of Photoshop help in that nose art,
Snake? I think I see some "disturbed pixels" around that name. Looks
good though, and if it is P'shopped, you did a good job of making it
look curved. Real or not-so-real, it looks good! : )

Len,

I just looked at your photo again and it occurred to me that the colors you
chose has a lot to do with background contrast in the event you triggered a
search and rescue operation. My old airplane was largely white with dark
blue scallops on the wing. I would guess pretty much invisible in snow. My
new one is planned as yellow with white trim. Not good for snow conditions
either, I guess.

Hey Snake-
I just had another look at your plane/photo, and the ski axles caught
my eye....are the extensions that project toward the centerline of
the plane for "assist wheels" for hangar handling, and trailer-
loading? If so, good plan.

well sort of... the red for the control surfaces has more to due with the solar reflection than visibility. I studied the planes at the airport, and in the mornings, the frost was off the red wings and tails before any other color, even black. The visibility was a second consideration.

akflyerbobs plane is all white with the red stripes on the wing and tail. When I am following him, one breif glance away and I am puckered up trying to find him again. His plane totaly dissapears against the snow and is hard to spot.

Well..... to be honest, I had to make longer axles as I had to put 3" more space in the wheels to fit the big tundra tires. When I changed over to ski's I just shoved the axles in and re-drilled the holes through the gear legs. I was going to cut them off flush, but they did make a great place for the jack when slipping the skis on so I left them. I will have to make another set of axles for the wheels if I ever put them back on. I am hoping to just go between floats and skis, but you never know, I make go wheels again one of these days.

This is WAY off flying as a topic, but I once had a go-kart to which
I fitted a longer rear axle so I could widen the tread width, and
have both rear wheels become drive wheels. I used a standard 36"
length of "ground and polished cold-rolled steel". Not knowing at the
time just exactly *what* width I wanted, I left the full 36" of axle,
and just milled a 1/4" keyway on each end for the drive hubs, and
installed it. A few days later, I was out on a frozen lake roaring
around, and testing my stupidity, and I saw a dock pipe sticking up
out of the ice...the dock had been taken inside for the winter. I
thought it'd be fun to see how close I could make the front tire
*just* miss the pipe. I think you can imagine the rest of the
story....actually, this story DOES have something to do with
flying....I damn near got airborne hitting that pipe with the widened
rear end, and definitely did a ground loop! And, I had a pretty
wobbly race car to boot...it bent the axle pretty good.

AKFlyer: Do you have a cabin heater in your Avid?

If so: Is it liquid or exhaust heat driven and is it effective?
I see many Foxes and Avids on skis and was wondering if you just bundle up in the snowmobiling gear and shiver or if you can keep it kind of warm in the cabin.

Thanks.

I have a heat muff (no pot scrubbers installed LMAO). I used Low-e insulation in the cabin area and can fly comfortably in -10 temps. I still wear my snow machine gear, but that is more of a safety issue. If you go down in cold weather, and are knocked out, if yer not bundled up you could freeze before getting your butt outta the wreckage. I don't have to wear gloves and my nose does not freeze while flying.

I plan on making a curtain to go from the floor behind the seat to the turtle deck to block off all heat from going into the rear of the fuse. No reason to heat up the tail.

I have a scoop on the back of the radiator with a 1 1/2" scat hose feeding the heat muff (sorta preheats the air) then a 2" into the cabin through a heat box so I can shut off in the summer. I can get pics when I get back home in a couple weeks if you would like to see the install.

This is WAY off flying as a topic C but I once had a go-kart to which
I fitted a longer rear axle so I could widen the tread width C and
have both rear wheels become drive wheels. I used a standard 36"
length of "ground and polished cold-rolled steel". Not knowing at the
time just exactly *what* width I wanted C I left the full 36" of axle C
and just milled a 1/4" keyway on each end for the drive hubs C and
installed it. A few days later C I was out on a frozen lake roaring
around C and testing my stupidity C and I saw a dock pipe sticking up
out of the ice...the dock had been taken inside for the winter. I
thought it'd be fun to see how close I could make the front tire
*just* miss the pipe. I think you can imagine the rest of the
story....actually C this story DOES have something to do with
flying....I damn near got airborne hitting that pipe with the widened
rear end C and definitely did a ground loop! And C I had a pretty
wobbly race car to boot...it bent the axle pretty good.

I think he was pointing out that with the extra axle sticking out inside the gear legs, I was setting myself up for possibly hitting something. A dock pole is a VERY good example. I hit one with the A-arm on my snogo last week, and it was in a spot that I would have taxied my plane right over!

Course, that could just be pure snake oil too and Lynn is trying to knock me out of the top salesman slot. Back off Lynn the position is mine and I aim to keep it Smile

Lowell

Lowell, the more I think about it, yellow would be good... some one is gonna be curious what the heck made that much yellow snow and they are gonna land and take a look.

Keep thinking of me as one of the smartest, and we'll all know who
leads the list of the opposite persuasion. : )

I don't know, I just saw Lenny's extra axle length stickin' out there
and had a flashback....it must be the codeine in the cough syrup
that's makin' me weird. : )

Lynn, Now why in the Hell would you tell us that story unless some

me, I'd still deny it. And, I thought you were one of the smartest
