My flaperon hinge brackets were made and the holes drilled in the ribs before the wing was covered. Now that the wing is covered the hinge brackets won't fit flat onto the wing without putting considerable stress on the rivets at the rear of the bracket. This is because the wing trailing edge is now thicker because of the fabric, tapes, and paint. See the attached photo.

Any suggestions on what to do. I can push hard and press the bracket down on to the wing surface, but it puts a lot of bending stress on the bracket. Any ideas?

thanks for the help,

Clem, The builder's manual says to fit and drill first then cover as you have done. Mine were a tight fit too.

I set the flaperon in place then installed the hinge bolts to take the stress off the rear rivet before I squeezed the brackets tight to the rib with one hand and riveted with the other hand.

The rear bracket rivets have held fine. I have had the flaperons off a couple times and the bracket bolt holes in the brackets line up perfect when I reinstall the flaperons. Also the bracket to rib rivets are holding tight.

I rib laced and put no rib lacing reinforcement tape or rib finish tape under the brackets.
