I have been looking into replacing some of the steel screws on the various Red Star aircraft we have at the museum.
The people at the Metric Screw company (which I got from somebody on this list long ago C and is the only place that seems to carry the slotted truss-head metric screws) can send out my screws to have them run through the black oxide process. If you're getting this done to a gun C the process is called 'bluing' and with stainless C "hot bluing" seems to have some real benefits: http://www.swdinc.com/black_oxide.htm
Does anybody know of a reason that I *wouldn't* want to have my aircraft screws done in black oxide?
Is something done in black oxide easier to paint? I've never had to paint the stainless screws but I seem to recall that you have to do something to get them to take the paint.
Thanks C
Jon
