Mike,
The sliders come off pretty easy with little risk of breaking them, the rest is a bugger to get off without cracking them, so unless you are planning to replace them anyway I'd buy a big roll of masking tape and forget taking the windshield and the center fixed off. Go slow if you decide to take them off. Another consideration if you have tinted glass: If you break just one section, will you be able to get the same tint?
Plus:
A new set of canopies is about $900 - $1000.00 now, more if you want a M/hood and the new one piece rear canopy.
Buy the tape.
Always Yakin,
Doug

Mike,
Just to solidify that advice, remove the sliders and tape up the fixed pieces really well. Use a detail gun and take your time.
If you are painting the glare shields I'd recommend Pacific Coast Laboratories Flat Black. It is what we use on all of your projects and is fantastic paint. It is a bit more expensive but shoots real nicely, flows well, and is a much better finish than anything else we've tried. It's used on classic car restorations.
Good luck!
Barry
